The shield regeneration mechanic in the entire EV series (and indeed, in nearly every space combat game in existence) is broken to favor regeneration over capacity. A small ship that can quickly regenerate shields has a huge advantage over any other ship- the Azdara and the Enhanced Arada are generally considered the most powerful EVO ships for that reason.

After years of playing and thoroughly enjoying EVN, I finally got around to downloading the EV and EVO ports for Nova. I've been enjoying EV for a few weeks now, but I'm wondering: is there any "end" to the story? I seem to have gone as far as I can working for the Rebels. I have a cloaking device, a tractor beam, and access to buy Rebel ships, but is that as far as the Rebel storyline goes?
defeated the aliens
, game's over.
I'm definitely used to the Nova way of things, with each "main" storyline having a definite ending point. Does EV have any sort of ending, or do I just drift through subplots until I've done them all?
People who played EV first tend to prefer the open ended approach, people who played EVN first tend to prefer the linearity. Funny thing.
I don't know that EV has that many notable subplots either. EVO has a lot more to do once you've resolved a particular string.
I always liked to delay the final Paaren Station mission so I could bring 4 UE Carriers and Destroyers wherever I went.
It was amazing how devastating those ships could be in any battle against Voinians or Renegades. My last "Destroy the Dreadnought" run, I took a "destroy a Voinian supply convoy" mission and the Paaren station escorts, so we ended up with a melee of 12 UE Destroyers + 2 UE Carriers vs. The Dreadnought + 2 Frigates + 4 Supply Ships. Fight was over before I even reached it.
It's equally amazing how fast the UE ships get obliterated in the Crescent; those missions are the game's real hard mode.
On my previous pilot, I did the UE missions. Is killing the Voinian Dreadnought the last mission? I can't seem to get any other missions after that, and the mission texts didn't give the feeling of closure (when I completed the Igadzra missions, they said something like "you have now helped destabilize the Strand conflict or something)
Contact the Emalgha, to the North of Voinian space and the West of Miranu space. Once you've completed the diplomatic relations mission, head to their little moon's bar and get ready to collapse most of the Voinian empire while fighting a truly horrifying number of frigates and cruisers.
I'm playing EVO through a plugin on ev-nova, and so far I'm enjoying it.
I understand that this is an old game, and that not that many people play it anymore, but will take my chances.
I'm currently playing the Zidagar storyline. The one commander who's been giving all the missions so far has just got promoted (think he said he would be closer to the crescent), but I can't seem to find him anymore.
I've been landing on all the Zidagar worlds, but the only missions that come up are to defend against attacks, or escorting convoys.
What planet should I try to land on?
And one more thing. Where are all the posts in this forum?, on the forum main page, I can only see three threads!
(1)Announcement Password Problems/Can't Log-in
(2)Pinned EVO Questions
(3)Play EV: Override on modern Windows machines!
Surely there must be more?
Welcome to the forums! I'm sorry to say they're pretty slow moving as of late, and it's just a coincidence that I saw your post so soon after you sent it.
See where it says "Click here to show filter options"? Hit that, then set "Time Frame" to "The beginning"
As for your plot question, I can hardly remember the Zidagar string, but I'll try to replay it and should have an answer for you by next week if nobody else manages it.
New Mac OS X and Windows builds of SheepShaver for running Ferazel's Wand and EV: Nova are available over at the Emaculation forums near the bottom of this thread. One of the members at Emaculation has managed to enable the gamma fades, so Ferazel's Wand works great now! Hopefully this works for you guys and will bring some activity to your forum!
Edit: Updated links for new builds with gamma fades.
The answer only took five years!
