I will of start the ball rolling as it is my topic. I was born in 1954, hopefully I'm not the youngest

23 here. I've been around these boards a long time, back before we switched over to this board actually, you certainly aren't the youngest or oldest
I was about eight years old when I first played EV. I couldn't figure out how to hail, fire secondary weapons, or use the map for nearly a year.

I was 8 too. My biggest problem was targeting ships. I kept buying turrets and they wouldnt work...

It took me a few weeks to discover that there was a map. I kept trying to get to other systems by flying to the edge of the Levo system. I also didn't figure out how to slow down, so the only way I could land was by opening my pilot again so he wound up right on top of the planet.

My first planet , I couldn't figure out whether I had won or not as the credit counter didn't move. Later I notice that I was gaining credits, but I had no idea why. Finally the penny dropped.
I'll be 19 in a couple months. It's pretty crazy, since I first started playing EV (I think) around 7 years ago.

I've been off the boards for the last 24 hours. It was bugging me that "Ruby" wasn't under my control. I set out with a fleet of hired Pirates with " Kestrals" and proceeded to take the defenders apart. I'm happy to report that only "Sol" stands in my way, with the exception of the the Rebel held planets that is. Taking Ruby was a long job. Just one red ring to go.

Go for Mars, Luna, and the spaceport first. At least you'll have somewhere to land in the system.
ima 13 now, started playing back when I was four. this game taught me how to read (I'd ask my parents what the messages at the bottom of the screen meant and when they told me I would remember after a couple of times.)

Damn, that's the youngest EV player I've ever heard of... kudos to you for choosing such a unique way to learn to read.

So you started playing in 1995? Astounding, considering the game was released 1996.
meh, little off, i was five. ...
Currently, I'm 22 and soon to be 23. I played the game years ago, dabbled in the black art of plugin programming, and have dipped my finger into 3D design and rendering. It gave me a bit of direction and I'd be lying to say it didn't influence my choice of study. I'm heading to Redmond, Washington next year to being working towards a BS in Realtime Simulation and a MS in Computer Science at the Digipen Institute of Technology. English Translation: I'm heading off to get a college degree in Video Game Programming.
I must also admit that I've slowly migrated from a Macintosh environment to a state of limbo between my beloved Power Center pro and a custom built PC with more video memory than I've been able to exploit to this point.
Enough, however, of this mindless dribble. The question has been answered and there is no need for me to continue this meaningless tirade.

It is important that one does with ones life what one will. I have in my life turned a hobby into a profession and professions into hobbies. A computer game that helps someone decide what they are to do with their life should be applauded. Go for it AJ, but , make your goal to be the best in your field, only then you will succeed.
The story line of my exploits as Capt, John Jones has kept my friends, family and nieghbours amused for some weeks now, I'm expected to give regular updates of my adventures on all occassions. My girls mother has just e-mailed me this evening asking if I can help her download this game to her laptop. Mother is 72.
I go the handel on Mars tonight. I managed it in one evening. I think it would have taken longer had I not hit the "Cap Lock" key. this was amazing to run the game at such high speed. Took me about 6 hours all told. On to Luna as you suggest. Not tonight though, I need to bank a few credits, taking Mars cost me about 15M.
