One of the major factors in the world is politics and government. It is arguably more important in war to have strong and popular leadership and a strong central command / government than a powerful army. Yet I find this lacking in most major webstories. Introducing politics into the mix could add a big element of realism into the gain (checks and balances to prevent poor decisions - different policies for different types of government - unique methods of waging war through the fact that several people have direct control over different parts of a polity, etc.).

The thing is, it's often mega-realism that kills webstories. We'll see, though. It could work, and I see where it could be a help.

I'm think we agreed to do an Aliens vs. Humans, it's before EV.

But that means we'd have to do some changes to the map, because some systems would be colonies.

Finally, another webstory! I've been waiting approximately seventeen Ages for this to show up, and all I can say is that I'm not being a Pirate this time. That wasn't too fun the last two times I tried that (reference BFS II, III). The factions are Rebels, Confeds, Pirates, Aliens? I think I'd like to be an Alien, just so I can design some tech. That's always fun. I know you said no new ships, but you're not really going to make the Aliens fight with just fighters and battlecruisers, are you? Come, now. Also, I agree with Luke and whoever else said that mods should not be players. It unbalances the game exceptionally when players moderate in battles, even ones not involving them. Well, that was a nicely hyper post. I think you can tell I'm happy to finally have another EV webstory to participate in. 🙂

Is everyone ignoring me? I already pointed out that in EV (the opening when you start a new pilot) the Rebellion doesn't come about until after the Great War. So there cannot be a Rebel gov't if the Aliens are also in this (excluding the one BattleCruiser in the game).

I've got one question. What would the ships be? Using the current Confederate Ships should not be an option, as in the Great War the Manta was used as the primary Fighter of the Confederation, so therefore the Patrol Boat would not exist or at least be in an experimental stage, and the same (i think) would go for the Gunboat and the Carrier.

Good point. Sorry for not noticing that you said that before.

In BFS III, we had Human Confederation, Pirates, Aliens as factions, so maybe we should do that this time too. Only problem with that story was that the tech drove it completely out of control, with all those giant carriers and battlecruisers and stuff. However, a story can get boring if each side only has two or three (or even four) kinds of ships, and two or three weapons, so I think we should allow some tech design.

(edit)And for the record, the theme of the original original Battle for Sol (around June, 2001) was Rebels vs. Confeds vs. Pirates for ultimate control of the Sol system, and thus the galaxy. BFS II I think the Confeds ultimately wiped out the Rebels, and aliens were introduced, and the Pirates got some tech but didn't really do much. BFS III it was HC vs. Aliens vs. Pirates (mostly irrelevant by then) for control of both the HC and Alien galaxies.(/edit)

BFS (and presumably this) stated that the battlecruiser was a scout and added some systems where the Aliens were.

I'd say for the Confeds it would be the Manta, A heavier fighter, similar to the gunboat, a destroyer model and a carrier.

I have no art skills whatsoever, so I can't design.

And remember, the pre-rebel mants didn't have missles.

We're not ignoring you, UR. The map just represents where the systems are for now. That doen't mean we're using it for the story.

About Alien ships, I think (as I said earlier) we should design equivalents to the Confed techs we get, so it is even.

Hmm. What type of rating system would we use for the ships? Similar to EV's?

Far fewer ships, if those stats are used. Personally, I think they should just get the cruiser and fighter from EV; then you could have more of them, and it would be closer to original EV.

I say that we should scratch the carrier and lighten the armaments of the others some. Maybe just have a carrier version of the battlecruiser, like same stats but only the fusion beam and few seeker drones with the added fighters. And maybe add an alien freighter. And would four light fusion beams be the equivalent to one fusion beam? If not then the destroyer would have equal/greater fire power than the cruiser if it was less.

Personally I think that this should be set with a second Alien invasion set during the middle of the Rebellion. How else are you going to have a webstory that's stock EV afterall?
