Admiral, no. No to everything. EMPTY plug-ins folder. Got it? No exceptions, empty? Just get on with it!

And I'd say no to MAGMA too, because it changes the sprites, which makes a difference in combat.

Um... What he said.

(I just ran a "practice" pilot as a Trader ... and was shocked at how little I accomplished in two measly hours: No planets dominated / Harmless Combat rating / Not one single special mission accomplished / Only 289,423 credits / Scoutship / (No one even took a shot at me either... but the Escape Pod was the first "extra" I purchased. What a weanie!)

Man! I stink at this!!! Who's idea was this contest, anyway????)

Corvette, fully upgraded, 1.1 million credits, Deadly combat rating, all Rebel missions except the alien ones. Never bought a 'pod...

The stage you're at now took me ten minutes. 😛

(edit)and I ran over time while trying to dominate Darven(/edit)

Hey, we should create a separate topic where we post about our daily progress. That way we can all keep track of how we're doing in comparison to everyone else. 😉

Well, here are some good reasons NOT to do Strict Play when you are really tired....

a) Trader - first landing(!) on Levo gets the Starbound Packet AND the Engineers to Turin. "Cool! I'm good!" (Ha!) Several systems later, I'm loaded up on Ferry Passengers and my one Rush in the Shuttle. I jump into Eridani -- two jumps away from Pelagon, where I'll deliver my Rush package and pick up some credits. ..."Oops!" Eridani does not trade in the Commodity I have 7 tons of (Industrial?) and I'm down to only 160 credits, AND I'm out of fuel. 160 credits only buys enough fuel to maneuver, not jump. Now I'm down to ZERO credits(!). No ships will "give" me fuel. Oh yeah, I have NO weapons, so I cannot even pick a fight (in a Shuttle!) and steal some fuel. Sooo ... I hail Tabeltop and demand tribute (Really!) my status immediately changes to "Hostile" and a Fed Cruiser wastes me. To top-off my idiocy ... did you know (Option/E) DOES NOT eject your Escape Pod????

🆒 Trader - third jump (Spica) my Shuttle's drift path after the jump takes me right between a Reb/Fed Cruiser battle. "What's that noise? Oh yeah -- PUNCH OUT, KK!" ... Did you know (Command/E) does not work ... if you still have not purchased a Pod yet?

c) Bedtime for KK....

Beat THAT, you rookies!!

Well my luck was good today.
1.Trader
2.5.10 million credits
3.Harmless combat
4.52,600 for a ship value

------------------

im just passing by here and i was wondering.....HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET ALL THOSE CREDITS IN JUST 2 HOURS?!?!?!?!

Pirating the Pirates. It also builds up your combat rating. Or beating the crap out of Junkboats...

If you want to make any credits fast, you're going to have to trade. How to quickly get money in 2 hours is as follows. Get 75000 credits from rush jobs, hire a light freighter. Fly to Capella and buy Industrial goods, fly to nemesis and sell them and buy luxury goods and sell them at Cappela e.c.t. When you have about 200000 credits buy a Defender and some decoy flares and hire another light freighter (you need a Defender to escape those pirate lightnings that attack you, just tell your freighters to hold position and they won't attack them). Keep trading and hiring more light freighters until you have eenough money. If, at Nemesis, and metal is priced at lower (5 credits per ton), then buy that and sell it at Dune (1 stop towards Cappela). Then buy industrial at Dune and sell at Nemesis.

That is ... astonishing. I suspect you are not following Zax' advice -- cuz his would increase one's Combat Rating, wouldn't it?

I got in another two hours (Is anybody else noticing that your two hours is ending "just" as you're beginning to get the good missions and have some fun? Or is it just me...?)
and now that I see firestorm's results, these seem laughable...

Trader
642,448 Credits
Average Combat
Scoutship about 130,000
Just a few stages of the Turin and Starbound missions....

(KK, goes off to lick his wounds...)

I of course have been playing for at least three years (our years not ev years :p) so I'm like this:
Mercinary
26.76M credits
alein cruiser:D (kilingon / fed war plug)
7.65 million trade in
8 planets dominated

I used the Capella and Nemesis run. Like I said I was incredibly lucky. Almost every time I went there luxury goods were higher resulting in huge profits.

So what does everyone consider a successful start? My idea relies on a clock. I've got 4 minutes to get out of my shuttle and into a scoutship and another 20 minutes to get into an argosy. Then I give myself 20 minutes to make enough money to deck out the argosy (Engine Upgrades, Missile Jammer, Decoy Flares, Turrets, and Cannons) and then I head for Darven. Popping Kestrels and Corvettes will make you a rich man very quickly.
