Umm, downgrading to a older version isnt a solution. The older versions are even more buggy. Instead, something else is the solution. If you could describe more in detail, we could help.

Yeah, there really is no good reason to downgrade. The only intersting version would be 1.0.0 I suppose, as it couldn't use plug-ins, had the old untextred ship graphics, missed certain missions (Escort Carrier) and had asteroids that were much easier to destroy. MUCH easier

There were some bugs which could've easily been used in such ways as to have been cheats. That's what you're probably referring to.

It would be kind of nifty to be able to go back in time and see all the old bugs. I would be highly interested in obtaining an old copy of EV. I had 1.0.2 at one point, but it has long since been deleted.

I don't remember why, but I used to have 1.0.4 because I preferred something about it over 1.0.5. I know that I prefer 1.0.1 of EVO over 1.0.2. I can't remmeber what it was though. It may just have been that I had the installer for 1.0.4 and no internet connection at the time.

The non-textured graphics perhaps? I remember how fond I was of the ooriginal Rebel Cruiser and Manta compared to the final 1.0.5 version. It's the only visible difference I can come up with.
The biggest difference I remember was a bug which allowed you to buy mass expansions into your escorts. A Kestrel with 6 Argosies full of munitions is pretty powerful stuff. In addition, you if you launched your fighters, then landed you could fill you bay up again and repeat the process.

I also am hunting a copy of 1.0.0 for the sake of using all the graphics... I'll soon be making an EV database at Dreamwave and want both the original graphics and the new ones.

Don't downgrade, upgrade! Right now, I am running EV 1.0.5, and it works great.

I still have a copy of ev1.0.2 that is what i am playing currently off of. the bugs actually make it easier to cheat pretty cool. the game isnt the best though. I got it off of a demo cd for the mac. pretty old.

Hrm, I remember downloading a plug a while ago which had the old courier graphic as a downgraded courier ship. I can't remember the name of the plug though (it had about a million spelling mistakes)

There is no point in downgrading as a method of piracy if you were concerned about that. I had been a pirate of ev when I was a poor stupid kid (its not my fault they wouldn't accept cash which is the only money I had) Needless to say, a very simple plugin can correct hector, and the very easy to find SN's on the internet work on any version as there isn't web checking or time/version expiration.
It would be intersting to try EV 1.0.0, The earliest I ever played was 1.0.4(i have the installer for this still), and there were almost no changes from that to 1.0.5 (aside from being able to capture ships with under 25% odds and a recolored rebel carrier and courier) But looking at the update logs, so many of the bugs fixed from the early versions would be fun to play with. Its almost unimagineable that in the early version your ship blew up if hyperspace trajectory went through the gravity well.
