I'd like to second that. Though I have a secret, perverted crush on the Manta fighter (specially before 1.0.5) the Lightning does make the combat missions much more interesting. As an AI-ship it's simply dangerous and even more so when you have to deal with more than one ("T.A.G. You're it" anyone?). In the early days the Lightning and it's heavy rocket suicide runs almost made me wet my pants. A little exaggerated, yes, but you get the idea.
Piloted by the player it is just a neat little package full of options. Dumping everything gives you about (think I got it right, haven't tried it out for a while) 98 tons of free upgradeable mass in a ship with excellent speed and shield recharge. There's just so much you can do from here, including going against it's original specs by adding a few cargo pods and hull upgrades. Poff here's your sparkling new ΓΌber-fast and durable courier.

The best ship is definitely the Rebel Destroyer (when piloted by the player) - it has decent speed, weaponry e.t.c and can take a lot of punishment, although as people have said, it takes the fun out of the game... So, the most fun ship to pilot would be the Lightning (despite its cargo capacity, or lack of it), or any agile ship that you can just strip down and load with primary weapons.
I heard there was going to be an EV TC for Nova, Frozen Heart was essentially an EV TC for EVO - it proves that EV is still the best!

Oh God... don't mention Frozen Heart... you'll remind me of the Icax...
I've actually played FH and not used the Tachyonic fighter, because it just made it all too easy. I used the Icax (which for some reason, while being technically a clone of the Lightning, I much prefer - probably aesthetics.) The stratofighter is much cooler than the Tachyonic fighter anyway... but is a little too powerful.

The best ship in EV?
Why, the Defender, of course!
I attacked Voinian H. Fighters and Frigates. I just circled the frigate, to avoid the rockets, and quickly gave it some good blasts before running out of range of turret fire. Of course some UE ships would launch some of their weaponry, but I mostly defeated them myself. I was quite mad at times when a destroyer beat me to defeating the frigate, but I just went after another one.

What was the name for the ship Captain Hector had in EVO? I was going to start fighting the Voinians with that ship, but it took a REAL long time to get it since I was so lousy at missions.
The Helian. Its a pretty decent ship, kinda slow for my preference. Just keep accepting missions and soon you'll have enough.
Oh. Maybe I can with a Helian.

Rebel Destroyer, hands down. It's got the handsome looks (especially since EV version 1.0.4 was released), great firepower, cheap price, and sweet speed. Couldn't ask for more.

In EV I quite liked the Clipper.. it was a nice size and looked good, and generally had to last you quite a while - in my experience usually between a Scoutship and a Lightning or Rapier - so about 1M credits, which used to take so long to work up in EV! The Clipper's only problem was the terrible turning rate - if it had been able to turn fast, even the AI pirate Clippers would have done quite nicely :).
For EVO I think the Igazra was the best - it definitely was the best for the AI with a larger range than any other ship! But apart from that, it had the looks (bright coloured ships were a real motivation in EVO!), was fast for a capital ship and had oh so much space to play with! That made it so easy to use secondary weapons with, even though the SAD / SAE modules couldn't hit much in 1.0.2 :frown:.
The Igazra was also the lightest high-end ship - in fact it only took 2 days per hyperjump.. yet another selling point although there generally weren't many time sensitive missions left by the time you got one. And of course, if you got it through the Igadzra string, you automatically had it equipped with a plasma siphon! The best secondary weapon ever!
On the downside, the only thing would be its small crew, but that was never much of a concern to me as I didn't like playing with escort ships anyway.... Oh well, I guess that's 500 posts - long time coming :)!

Soup Nazi? That reminds me of something..
I'd say Reb Destroyer is most fit for a beginner. It has everything. Reb Cruiser is really slow. Rebel Manta is too fast and weak. I guess Rebel Destroyer IS the best... Think I'll go change my nickname to something awesome...

You think like me.
My favourite ship in EV is the Defender. I am a pilot of fighters, and a proberbly upgraded Defender kicks some major butt. I get armaplast, and everythin gthat weighs nothing. It moves very fast, and can out-run or dodge any type of secondary weapon fired at it.

Or you could increase a vettes speed, and it can almost match the speed of a defender. For some reason, whenever I upgrade a corvettes speed, defenders always show up to attack me. It lasts about 200 in game days.
Kestrels are my fav in normal ships. In Rebel ships, I'd say the Destroyer is the best.
Now i have figured out what's wrong and why I can't use the Alien plugin thingie. My sis doesn't let me. Guess I have to wait.
What's the name of it? Gotta remember.
Rebel Manta

Soup Nazi? From a Seinfield episode... I prefer this username now, however.
I also think the rebel destroyer is your best bet because of the price. You can get a kestrel with two lightnings for a heck of a lot more cash, yet AI against AI, kestrel will get blasted by the destroyer's firepower. 2.8mil. for a beautiful, deadly, fast ship is a sweet deal.

I'll be randomly responding to messages in this forum. Be confused. Be very... confused. STOP WHIMPERING, I SAID CONFUSED, NOT FRIGHTENED!
I don't know too much about it, but yes, I guy is porting EV and EVO to EVN. It has something to do with the name Port Authority. Last I heard the guy was also asking for what new features EVN has thought should be added to EV and EVO too. T.A.G. You're it scared me, but the A.I was seriously lacking for me for some reason. Unless you fired on them, the majority of the lightnings for me just waited for somryihng to be happen... Very, very dull. I've never actually tried stripping down a Lightning or Rapier and loading it up with stuff... I'm a rather boring person I guess. I took my Rebel Cruiser and strapped every amount of every speed, acceleration, shield, armor, etc. etc. upgrade there to it. I gave it the best combination of primary weapons I could find and as many Javelin Rockets as I could. (I disabled Andrew and stripped him of 999 javelin rockets once) No challenge though. :frown: The Rebel Destroyer (Will I ever shutup?) is probably the best value on a ship you can get, but by the time you can actually buy it, you'll probably be rolling in credits! Unless you were to disable and steal the ship, but if you're going to do that why not just steal a better ship?

I'll go with the Confederate Cruiser, since if you capture it correctly and liberate the 'Fed Patrol Ships as well, you're made in the shade..
You should of all noticed by now that a stock patrol ship can destroy any other stock fighter in the game, and they're a great help when attacking capital ships, as well.
Regardless, the Clipper was fun for the time when you had to have it, since you could just pay for mass expansions and turn it into a sub-corvette.

Yes, and have the slowest ship in EV. The only ship as slow as Voinian Cruiser. As for Patrol Ships destroying any fighters, Lightnings from a Kestrels bay trash the Patrol Ships before they can touch the Lightnings.
------------------ I am eager to try to ansver mission questions
...The Lightning indeed makes short work of the Patrol Ship. Lightnings have earned a blow-up-bad-fighters-very-quickly reputation - with all that extreme firepower they're nasty. Missiles, heavy rockets, javelins and laser cannons packed together amounts to some serious punishment.

You can get the Alien Cruiser? Other than capture I mean.

I once had an Argosy that had all but 5 tons of cargo converted to free space. I had a fighter bay and two hawk fighters. Plus missles, torpedoes, and the most guns and turrets I could get. But the Confed Cruiser is the best.
