Defeating the alien cruiser. The cheap way.

Well, there are quite a few loopholes tto exploit in the engine. Here's one I should have known years ago... I did a search, but found nothing, if this alread has been mentioned, please post the link.

Do the mission where you're supposed to destroy the alien cruiser for the Rebels.
Jump into the system where the alien is with as much fuel as you possibly can store. The very split second you enter the system, activate the Cloaking Device, the alien cruiser can't be given the opportunity to launch it's fighters or there's a chance this might not work.

Stand back and enjoy the show as your two cruiser escorts and their Manta fighters blast the alien into oblivion without any resistance. It's just going to sit there frozen in space, waiting for you to uncloak.

Consider it a cheat, even more so than the Monty Python.

If you are playing as a Rebel, you can always use your tractor beam, if you have earned it, and then blast the Alien Cruiser into Kingdom Come with your guns and turrets.

In all the times I've gone through the Rebel missions (too many to bother counting), I have never gotten the tractor beam before the alien mission. I dunno why, as everyone I've heard from has gotten the tractor beam first.

Hmm. I always got the mission for the tractor beam right after the alien mission.

I always got it about seven to ten missions prior to destroying the alien cruiser.

I tried to get it before the alien missions, but I got them after it. How ironic, considering that the tractor beam helps a lot in the alien mission.

I got the Alien Cruiser mission but than went out of my way purposely so I could get the Tractor Beam mission. The second time around I got the Tractor Beam almost directly after the Cloaking missions.

Getting the tractor beam before the cloaking device missions is really good, since the Aliens harm you most with their beams. If you have the tractor beam locked on to the Alien, then they're virtually helpless.

As the Alien Fighters are actually harder to take out than the Cruiser, I find the tractor beam a great help in making that task easier.

Not when you are playing Talon, have a Raven, 5 Laser Turrets and 2 Neutron Turrets. Its so easy I managed to disable one. 😉 >really evil grin>

I took out a fighter without any plugs. I didn't have any escorts but (Deep breath, you can skip this, it's just a basic description of my ship) I had two hawks and four mantas in the bay of my Rebel Cruiser at the time. In the ship I had three laser cannons and four of those guns which shoot farther than laser cannons but don't do as much damage. (It takes up eight tons, Proton Cannons? I dunno'.) I also had the max number of proton turrets (Or whichever turret was supposed to be more powerful, I remember it taking up 30 tons) on my ship and every single speed, armor, and shield upgrade possible. (Every single extra plating, all those things on Blackthorne which increase regeneration and stuff, every speed enhancment...) Finally, I had the Tractor Beam of course. I was able to easily take out one with all this stuff. (After the Cruiser mission I've only seen one although in an older file I saw two.)
