I just did the Rebel string that gets you the cloaking device and I want to know if, once I've done this, the Confed strings will be locked away from me. In other words since I've done this string, can I still do the confed strings? I haven't done the Rebel strings which get you the tractor beam, or the string with the aliens.

you now no longer get the confed missions. there is actually an earlier rebel mission, i believe, which sets the mission bit which keeps you from getting the confed string.

Once you start playing for one side, you're pretty much locked into that side. Although there is a mission where if you're working for the Confederation, you're kidnapped by rebels and forced to blow up a frigate, and you're supposed to become a member of the rebellion after that, but it doesn't really work quite right. At any rate, you're way passed the cutoff point.

There is a way to become a so-called "double-agent," but as these people have said, it's too late to do it now.
To work for both sides simulateously, you have to get both initial delivery missions -- that is, get the "Deliver Rebel Parcels" mission before finishing the "Deliver Confed Documents" mission, or vice versa.
I just wanted to bring that up since I just blew up two alien cruisers today...

Crap, the start off mission was Deliver Rebel Parcels? Well, I feel pissed. Still, I wanted to bring up the fact that I found this neat plug which has two missions. One converts you to the Confeds even while being a Rebel, and vice verca. I'm not sure who well it will work. (I'm not sure if I can even still use the mission.) Anyways... Um, yeah, that's about it.

Almost correct. There is one Alien Cruiser in the Confederate Mission String and one Alien Cruiser in the Rebel Mission String. Firebird was meerly pointing out the small bug in the game that allows you to play both sides with the same pilot. He blew up a cruiser for both sides.

I had a really bad reputation in the Confed planets like MOST WANTED or PUBLIC ENEMY. I ignored it and kept killing them 'feds. Then, suddenly when I looked at the map, I was a PILLAR OF SOCIETY in all the Confed planets! And the Confed ships still attack me. What the heck is going on?

They must've hated you so much that the value for your legal status (stored in your pilot file) got to such a low negative number that it wrapped around and became a very high positive number.

I keep killing Confeds, but still they think I'm a pillar of society. And when I demand tribute, my stats suddenly jump to CRIMINAL, whereas it used to jump to OFFENDER.

Anybody played the "Final Battle" plugin? I've been playing it for a week or so, and I got this "Destroy Stardock Alpha" mission. I was given one shot of a really strong weapon, and I was supposed to destroy Stardock Alpha with it. They told me to shoot the weapon at Stardock Alpha. As if it were possible. I tried shooting at it, but the shot always goes past Stardock Alpha and does nothing to it.
I just can't finish the mission! Help!
