Uhh, plug or not, that is a definate cheat. My favorite is close: the Bomb. It is easy to deliver for me, packs a brass knuckle punch, and is easy to afford when you've taken over half the galaxy. Gawd, I luvem!

I've always liked the p-beam from the 'feds, but the neutron blaster is another favorite.
In my opinion, the most satisfying weapons are the Turbolaser and Pulse Phasor from the plugin EVGE.

Without plugins: torpedo. With plugins: stellar torpedo (Oreste). I realized these were not only slow, but, like other secondary (projectile) weapons, you have to keep going back and restocking. So I went into the data file (a copy) and created a plug that not only increased it's speed and reload time, but also made it "unlimited." Yes, I know it's kinda like cheating, but now I've got a torpedo "machine-gun." BRRRRRRRRRRRRRP! I don't worry about the cheating part, since now the bounty hunters, pirates, and whoever else is angry at me using it. However, I do know how to get out of the way! All it takes is a touch of the afterburner and those torps fall by the wayside. As for primaries: protons all the way! I also like the NaCl beam (also "fixed") in the Oreste plugin. I think the perfect fighting machine would have to be a combination of either the Oct ship that you're able to buy (Mugabi and Destiny) or the SuperEagle (Oreste), stellar torpedoes, and NaCl beam (or alternatively the Peanut Spoons (Quantumire trilogy).

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. But it's called the NaCl beam. It works really well against the aliens. If you haven't played "Oreste" yet, give it a try! I've already played the Rebel and Confed sides and am working on the Kr'wgh side (another alien group), but am having trouble. I have been told to go to Refu to get the Death Torpedo launcher and torps, yet, even though I opened up the plug, I cannot find a planet/station called Refu anywhere. So, I'm stuck.
Laser Cannons on a Lightning. Virtually suicidal but alot of fun.
HSF Torpedos (EVGE). They have a kickass launch sound.
VLS System (Pale). In my opinion, it just looks damn cool.

Hey, much less suicidal than being in a Defender. Even with some added armor, yeesh.
For em if would have to be heavy rocket. Fun when fighting defenders or the alien fighters. They true meaning of a boost.

You get the Mass Driver by playing the Rebel string. It sucks in the standard game, but rocks in Galactic Scourge. And I think that it does more damage to armor than shields...
