Recently I was just surfing the web, looking at EV pages, and came upon (url="http://"http://www.rit.edu/~mjr8305/Escape-Velocity.html")this(/url) page.
I was amazed to see THIS:
Is this a splash screen from v 1.0.0 or something? Did this guy make it himself? More importantly, where can I get a full-sized one?
(edit) If you look closely, you can see Kestrels, Executive Transports, Bulk Freighters, what appears to be a Corvette, and some sort of blue fighter that doesn't appear in the game... alright, time to calm down. (/edit)

Anyway, yeah, that was the splash screen for the early days of EV (before it was released, I believe). And those blue fighters are Patrol Ships.

I first saw that image in an Ambrosia Times preview of Escape Velocity, from back when it was an upcoming game. I think it was from a pre-release version, and I'd have liked it if they'd kept it.

It only looks like an attack fleet. My guess is that it's a convoy. And, um, Zax, is there a higher-resolution blowup available, or was it never released?

I just downloaded the existing pic and blew it up by 300%. Given a lot of time and patience I could probably have made it look better, but I don't have any patience

Hmm.. those were the days. How many remember the first layout? It didn't even have a webboard And then that lovely yellow thing came with the spider on top (I've saved the spider btw.) But was that splash really from a preview? I seem to remember it from the earlier versions (and I didn't hook up until 1.0.2)..

I can't quite remember the very first layout before there was a web board but I do remember the old spider. In fact, I've been looking for that for a long time. (hint hint) As for EVula... I don't think it's so much a matter of patience as it is pride. His ego must be fed and he's got the EV community in his jaws =P. evula.com!

Nope, it's had the same splash screen through all it's versions. I can testify, as I just installed he original version to see.
