Well, that wasn't too helpful. Anyway, I discovered that action 6 under the conversation editor will open the pillar at argument 1 if you put 3 into the argument 2.

If you've seen info boxes that ask for frames per second (the speed of moving spiked balls and such, for example), you will need to use this equation:

Use the formula X PIXELS/SEC * 256 / 30 = INFO(X)
(A frame is 1/30th of a second.)

From what I recall, using various modifier keys when laying down tiles caused it to automagically generate (tween) the tiles into relatively smooth surfaces. I think it was the Option key -- maybe Ben or someone else can confirm?

One other hint -- if you want to see how certain things are done, a good way to do it is open up an existing level from the set that we shipped with Ferazel and use the editor to inspect the level and the various settings for it.

To get smooth surfaces, it's recommended that you draw the tiles in Photoshop (or any graphic editor) and "Paste as Smoothed FG Tilemap." This is the easiest way to get a quick, basic level layout started. It is much, much faster and less frustrating than laying out the tiles one by hand.

D'oh! Hello, I'm the master of inefficiency

How would I draw these tiles in Photoshop? Is there an example I can see?

You draw a bitmap image of your level (one pixel per tile) in photoshop, copy it, and choose something from MASCOT's Edit menu.

However, I think drawing by hand is better.

I take it back! I TAKE IT BACK! I TAKE IT BACK!!

I tried making a level in photoshop, and it is MUCH faster than drawing by hand!
Also, you won't run out of space or have lots of space leftover.

Could you explain how you draw it in? What do you do when you are in the drawing program? I don't understand how you have control over your level layout by just drawing a black and white outline of the level (which is what I asume you do).

All you need to do is create an image in any drawing program and set the number of pixels to the number of tiles in the level, e.g. if your level was 200 tiles wide by 50 tiles tall, your pic would be 200 pixels by 50 pixels. All you have do do is fill the image with black to make things more convenient (if your level is subterranean), then take your basic pencil tool and draw (using the color white) all the paths in your level. Now that you have that, you may want to save the drawing (just in case) then choose select all and then edit>copy, switch to the ferazel editor and choose "paste as smoothed FG tilemap" from one of the menus - probably the edit menu - and voila! The way this works is that the Ferazel editor takes the black and fills it with dirt or whatever, then it goes over the edges and smoothes 'em.

Thanks. I tried i... and it is easier. Although it will take some time getting use to it. And you have to go over and edit everything in MASCOT I found, to make sure everything is just how you want it. But doing it this way gives you a rough outline that you can mold later on. Faster than laying out each tile.
