When I'm playing EV and I have escorts I land on a planet and my escorts just go. This has been a big problem. Please help someone.

Sounds you're hiring them (in the bar) and then being a cheap bard and not shelling out the credits to keep them under your control. They cost money, then continue costing money. One of my bad mistakes when first playing. Just capture them. Oh, and I'm not calling you a bard, don't ever take me too seriously. Others have already found this out. No worries at all, mate!

It happens with captured ships. I'm not too sure if it happens with hired, but I think it has. Deployed ships I don't know I just keep them inside the ship for safety. I don't want them to go aswell.

They go away sometimes, I've found, when there are max ships in the system (only in the earlier versions) and, as mentioned, when you can't pay them anymore. It depends on the escort type.

Thats weird... hiring escorts can get expensive, I found out early on. I stopped hiring escorts. Most trouble I have I can either outrun or outgun.
I have never had an escort simply dissappear. Currently I have six Clippers escorting my Kestrel. I also have lightnings of course. It took me a few tries to figure out how to control them. make sure to recall them and then tell them to dock. I believe the default commands for that are c and opt+c, respectively.
A good strategy is to capture cargo-type ships as escorts, and exploit lucrative trade routes and/or capture cargo. Myself and others have raked in millions this way.
If you land or jump without landing your fighters, I am pretty sure they will always dissappear. If anybody knows how to dismiss and escort, I would like to know. Time to upgrade to Argosies for my cargo escorts.

What version of EV are you using? If it's anything under 1.0.5, then that may be the problem.

To fire/release escorts, hail your escort and choose release from servitude.
