The two Human Confederation fleets had just finished the capture of the Exerd system, when suddenly something strange happened...
"Sir!!!" The sensor officer turned to Admiral James, her face panic-stricken. "A large unidentified warfleet has entered the system!!"
Mark just stood there, his eyes wide as the Dreden fleet came into visual range. The bridge crew all stared in awe of the massive fleet. They were all blue, and similar in design to alien vessels, but they showed no alien life-signs.
"What are they?" Mark asked at last.
"Their transponders say Dreden..." the female officer broke off in a stunned silence. "They're... human!"
Mark remained motionless, but somehow you could tell that he was as astonished as the others. "Open a com frequency."
"Sir?"
"Do it now!"
She nodded and pressed a button. "You can speak now, sir."
Pausing for a moment to gather his thoughts, the admiral spoke. "Greetings Dreden, I am Admiral Mark James of the Human Confederation. We are not enemies of you nor of your kind; we are from the Milky Way, and we come here after the Aliens invaded our own galaxy. Please identify yourselves."
Once he was finished, Mark turned to the weapons officer. "Disengage shields and weapons systems. I want to show them we mean no harm."
"But-"
"Do what I say!"
"Yes sir..."
Mark could tell that everyone was uptight. So was he, but right now acting scared wasn't going to be the answer for anything...

Obtained from the BFS III online rules: After a post moving the fleet, the fleet cannot be moved again until a player from another government has posted a move or battle
If you notice, there were intervening posts by other governments between each of our posts. Also, if Carno and then I post, we can again post in succession after another government player posts.

"Sir, the commander of the fleet is hailing us," the comm operator said.
"Open up the channel, lieutenant," Skyblade replied.
Skyblade held his breath for a moment, only hoping that what he had just stumbled on wasn't yet another alien menace. Just as the lieutenant opened up the comm channel, sensors indicated that the "HC" fleets had lowered shields and disengaged weapons.
Skyblade stood up from his chair and spoke.
"Greetings, we have received your message. My-"
Skyblade paused a moment before going on.
"-My name is President Skyblade of the United Dreden war coalition. We represent the fighting force of systems which have resisted Imperial rule."
For a moment, there was silence. A reply then echoed across the channel.
"You're human?"
"That is correct," Skyblade responded. "A people once from the depths of the Milky Way, but enslaved upon capture by alien forces centuries ago."
"Then I'm pleased to announce that you now behold your friends from the Milky Way," Mark James said. "Little did we know that we were not the only ones fighting a common enemy."
At first, everyone aboard the Titan Liberty had little reaction. Shock seemed to have gripped them all, but was soon followed by a wild cheers. At last the day had come.
"Welcome to the Sentarus galaxy, Admiral Mark James. We've at last found our friends from the Milky Way who we once believed had been destroyed. Nothing can express our joy in beholding fellow humans. We are at your service."
After sharing a few more words, Skyblade continued.
"Perhaps we could make arrangements for yourself and members of your fleet to visit my flagship. It seems as though we've got plenty of catching up to do. What do you say?"

Vice Admiral Ipvicus: Some nice battle content, but your post is void until I get an answer from Mac conerning capital defense fleet selection. I think the defending team should be able to choose the ships of their own capital force. Also, the defending team should have some part in posting defense counterattacks and so forth (since this is, after all, the most important system of a government. This will certainly be a rule in "An EV Webstory.") .
Sure Skyblade I dont mind waiting for you to get this cleared up, just as long as you Dreden dont plan on making any attacks until then. I personally think that we were extremely fair in our battles, in both the content of your defense fleet, and in following the rules to the letter. I really dont see what you would hope to accomplish, my fleet was almost 250 million credits larger than the defesnse fleet we gave you (which costed 524 million by the way). We also gave you all of your latest technology. I realize that you dont like being defeated, and I might argue if I were in you place, but you have to understand that everything we did was within the bounds of the rules as they stand now. You Dreden have fought an excellent war, and this is probably like the Nazi's making a massive paradrop on wahington during the Battle of the Bulge, but we have stil satisfied the conditions neccisary to force your defeat regardless. I only hope that the integrity that you have shown while you were winning will be reflected in how you behave in defeat.

Admiral Rak watched as Mark James made history. Leaving James to his devices, Rak dispatched his aide, Philip Cartwright, and Field General Seagle to be a special envoy to the Dreden. Meanwhile, Rak ordered his ships to capture the Masada system.
--------------
When Rak decelerated from hyperspace, the system seemed dead quiet. Rak cautiously setup a BARCAP and had his Destroyers and his sole Enterprise encircle the planet.
Suddenly, there was a massive explosion on the planet. Almost instantly afterward, four Alien BattleCruisers shot out of the planet...right into the Human blockade.
The destroyers began dumping fire upon the lead Alien BattleCruiser, and the Enterprise spewed torpedoes at the second BattleCruiser in line. Tigersharks and Hammerheads, meanwhile, began launching their large loads of space bombs and other long range ammunition, out of the Aliensล range. Soon, the entire defense fleet was eliminated.

OOC: Captain Skyblade, check your saberstudios@evula.net e-mail address. I just sent you something.
Mark James talked for a while with President Skyblade, learning of how the Dreden came into being and the history of how the Aliens took them prisoner. Once he was finished, Mark got down to tactical and military business.
Displaying a tactical map of the current situation, Mark spoke. "Currently, my friend Admiral Rak is working on capturing Masada, and will soon attack Camden. In the meantime, I need you to capture the system of Tarkard. My fleet will provide support fire from a distance, but no more. Once Tarkard is captured and Camden is in HC hands, my fleet will assault the new Alien capitol of Sentarus Prime. You and the 16th fleet, under Admiral Rak, will jump in and help. Soon, the Aliens will be destroyed, and we will all have victory. What do you think?"

Can we stop posting until mac decides what to do about dreden. Skyblade, you're the one who fell into my trap. Me, grundy, and Ipvicus had planned this strategy ever since you formed your big fleet at Rhansard. Our victory was perfectly legal, as I gave Ipvicus a huge amount of reinforcements. 788 million vs. 524 million. Dreden didn't have the benefit of you or any others commanding its fleet. You yourself said that no control over defense fleets can be allowed. Look at our tactics. We used any mines you would have layed against you and point defense cannons (thanks Bari), we executed it perfectly, and won.
------------------ Go Red Sox! Down with the Yankees!
At this point in time Jimbob decided immediatly to take the system of Camden. He ordered his fleet to get ready for the assualt. His jumped into the system, and saw 6 gunboats, 6 interceptors and a destroyer come up from the planet. His fleet began immediatly firing torpedos at the destroyer, which under such immense fire, didn't last long. The three MkII destroyers each fired a Starwraith rocket in the direction of the interceptors, taking 3 out and damaging the rest. Jimbob was heavily impressed with the new weapon. He ordered the destroyers and fighter to finish off the remaining interceptors while the rest pursued the gunboats. Under serious cannon and laser/turret fire, the gunboats were short lived. And finally the last of the Interceptors perished.

OOC: Dreden technology has lately surpassed that of the Empire, so if Mac goes through with my question, I think the Dreden have more of a chance in destroying or chasing off the enemy. But our chance will only come if we can possibly select what we actually need. If I'm careful about choosing the Dreden defense fleet and pull a nasty little tactic I've had in mind (using a different character, of course), the speed and firepower of the Dreden ships will get the better of you.
Nobody likes being defeated, and nor do I. But don't you believe my side of all this is fair? I'm sure you'd request the same.
No more Dreden attacks until I receive and answer from Mac (with the exception of Jimbob's latest post). During the time, Dreden fleets are permitted to move.
I'm sure you think your tech is better, and ill admit its powerful, but our Tractor Beams and Point Defense Cannons provide us a different kind of advantage. Trinity cannons and Starwraith rockets can really bust up our ships, but Drill Bombs can do the same to yours (and our Point defense cannons can pick of some of your rockets). Plus in addition to the advantages our fighters already have over yours our Long Range Tractor beams can freeze your smaller ships in space.
OOC: Ummm you HC and Dreden that have been captureing our Core Systems seem to be unaware that the rules clearly prohibit one post battles in Core systems. And the Dreden should consider themselves defeated until Mac says otherwise.
Am I right in thinking a new ship has to be created and reveiwed by Mac to be considered okay? I also only remember research for the PDC.

Your tractor beams and defense cannons are brand new, and you therefore have limited numbers of them. The trinity cannon has been around since the start of the webstory, thus we have a good three or so ships that carry it. Our mines could be able to prove their stuff using a few of their own tactics as far as laying them is concerned, and our new little Destroyer Mk. II's carry the new starwraiths. Since we could buy a good number of these, our firepower would still far outclass the Empire. Say, the idea of even sending a Battlecarrier into the defense might do some serious shredding. Also, Dreden ships are in some cases twice as fast as yours, giving us a serious tactical advantage. Tactics are how fight, and I haven't been really able to execute them during this webstory yet.

Legatus Ipvicus looked over what remained of his fleet with a mixture of extreme pride and deep sorrow. Some of the bravest men and officers the Alien Empire would ever see had lost their lives in the Battle of Dreden, but their sacrifice would not be forgotten.
For now, however, he must concentrate on more immediate problems. The invading HC were still a menace, and one that needed to be delt with soon.
5th fleet reamred, refueled and now under way for the Velburt system.
Time had run out, and Mark knew it.
With the Alien capture of Dreden, the HC could wait any longer. Mark quickly ordered that the HC fleet proceed immediately to the Sentarus system. Moving quickly, the 7th Fleet entered Tarkard, then instantly jumped out again towards Sentarus Prime.
As the HC entered Sentarus Prime, they immediately started sending streams of torpedoes and missiles towards the enemy fleet. As they moved around into a encircling formation, the HC hit the Aliens hard with a deadly crossfire. Then all their fighters charged in, firing all their ammunitions in one massive wave.
The Alien fleets were shocked and battered by this daring attack, and soon faced another problem as a group of 10 Devil Rays went on a kamikazie attack in an effort to help end the battle sooner. Several ships fell to them, as the fighters charged in again.
The massive wave of HC fighters hit the Aliens even harder as they were joined by the destroyers and the Skyblade Frigate. But the Skyblade was a rather large target for the Aliens, and was hit repeatedly. It's shields were blasted away, and suddenly an Alien fusion beam tore open a large hole in its hull.
Screaming out of control, the frigate rammed the Alien carrier, which was the flagship of 15th fleet. As fire spewed from the enemy carrier, the HC made sure that any ship that tried to escape was instantly pounced upon and destroyed...
7th Fleet 2 Enterprise-class Battlecruisers (both light damaged) 2 Freedom-class Cruisers (one H.C.S. OOC: I'm not sure about the defense fleet stats for the system, but let's just say that they were hit severely.
OOC: Carn if you expect that post to stand you are delusional, your small fleet might be a match for Grundy and Kyles fleet (without the defense fleet), but to be able to do what you did is impossible considering the stregth and capalbilities of the Alien ships you were attacking.
Fleet Admiral Rak, after Admiral James had launched against the Alien capital and completed phase one, initiated phase two of Operation Swift Death. Rak ordered a course set to Sentarus Prime.
-------------
Jumping into the fringe of the system, Rak watched as the two forces engaged in a brutal battle. James had the Alien fleets encircled and trapped. Just then, a large Alien force emerged from the surface of the planet. It was composed of numerous Alien vessels. Rakลs ships began pouring our torpedoes at the defense fleet, and his destroyers and enterprise began closing the distance to the battle. When the destroyers arrived, they were immediately assaulted by the remaining Alien forces. They began pouring out short range weaponry, decimating the already weakened Alien force. By the time the enterprise had arrived, the Aliens were severely beat down.

Mod Post: Lots to cover here, it seems. First, I think the Dreden should be able to pick their own defense fleet, and use it accordingly. It wouldn't necessarily be a big deal if they lost now that they've found the HC; they could join us easily. However, they should have that chance to stick up for themselves. The rule about no single post battles when taking a capital (If it says "Core" in the rules I meant "Capital," so those single posters are fine as long as they're reasonable, which they have been.) was primarily designed to prevent someone from walking in and crushing a government all at once. Ipvicus may have followed the letter of the rules, but really not the spirit. The Dreden should control their own fleet. There are also some other allowances to consider. The capital defense fleet is going to be composed of elite troops, for obvious reasons, and will probably have a better kill/loss ratio than average. A solid tactician (gov. leader) should be in charge during the battle. In fact, the spirit in which the strong capital defense was created was intended to prevent it from being captured by a single fleet, though I didn't exactly plan on 800 million credit fleets.
Also, for Rak and Carno's earlier captures which didn't have an Alien move between tham, I'll allow those, because enough Alien moves were recorded later, they didn't break any other rules, and voiding them would be too confusing.
Moving to the Milky Way:
KK, I'm afraid your post will have to be essentially void, as their are too many problems. Firstly, you have to tell us where you've gone. I can't put you on the map if I don't know, and Zen has standing orders to pursue your fleet at full speed. Please don't try to tell me we're so stupid that we can't follow a hyperspace vector. Second, even if you could take the defense fleet with you, the one you listed is way to big. I think you were assuming that Pollux was still a Core World; it isn't. Once a planet is captured, it loses it's Core status indefinitely. Think about it - a major invasion as would be required would mess up the economy, kill lots of people, level some cities, etc. A Core World isn't just going to roll over for your pleasure; you'll have to fight the populace, and probably would have a hard time collecting the larger tax from them. If the HC recaptures it, it may eventually become a Core World again, but not for quite some time. And third, how you think you can escape from a partial englobement by fast fighters shooting (basically) guided Javelins with no losses is beyond me.
spl - quite reasonable overall, except for one problem. The Interdictors are still far out, and while I don't dispute that you could make them run, you can't do it right away - so many of your fighters which were trapped in a pincer movement would have been lost. I'll accept your post and edit in more losses to your fighters (and maybe one or two minor other things, haven't studied it yet) when I update the map.
