The kestrel is definently better than the corvette, don't believe me? Well deal with it, if some one ever makes a decent EV MP you'll be space dust every time you see me in a kestrel...

I don't know what your taliin about. yeah it looks pretty cool but I love the corvette plus its got the coolest name. vettes are my favorite capitol ship (including rebel destroyer evenn though they are much better).
As for fighting. I can take out both kestral and corvette in a lighning prefferably Apprentice(mine).

Although the Corvette is certainly one of the best ships in Escape Velocity, I'd say the Executive Transport has a nicer design. As for the name, what's so special about a generic ship class name like (url="http://"http://www.bartleby.com/65/co/corvette.html")corvette(/url)?

Well, the corvette name has been used in many games. Its mentoned in Marathon2: Drandal(SP?) and they have those in star wars
The Kestrel is a very good ship. I always use one until I get enough relations to buy the govrnment ships. It just depends on the player and his stratgies. If you upgrade it the right way it can take on a confed frigate and mabie a rebel destroyer if there werent mantas all over the place

That's also true of a Corvette, probably an Argosy too, though it's been so long since I flew an Argosy that I can't really remember.

The Argosy can make a nasty warship when properly upgraded. Give her two proton turrets, maybe a cannon or two, throw in a Hawk fighter bay, and toss in some missiles or torpedoes while you're at it.
Oh yeah, I don't fly an Argosy anymore, either...

Actually, we do. A Rebel Destroyer is an Argosy after all. Another compelling reason why an Argosy should be able to take one if properly upgraded.
Yeah, I remember when I was boasting cause I owned an Argosy. Than I got my arse kicked by a Lightning or Rapier or some such. Although it was much better than my old Clipper...

the main advantage is of course space, and its turret capacity. the more turrets the better, and the kestrel can have more than any other commercial vessel.

From my limited experiances in EV:
Corvette: If you like flying around blasting at one thing at a time then running away.
Kestrel: If you like the mobile weapon platform approch to battles, but it does have enough speed etc to run/jog should it be required.
I'm a Kestrel man. I like guns. Lots of Turrets. Lots of fighters. Lots of escorts (a lot easyer to amass). To heck with speed! Hand me that big red button connected to the missile controls!
One thing kestrels are very good at are giving you a quick 1/2 a million by disabling them!
