Who makes More...Confeds or Rebels...

ok, this is to settle a dispute me and a friend had about who really would make more. the confederates or the rebels in accordance with where they are located in the universe. for example, should you deduct cash from the confeds because all their systems are cloase, and battles would be easier for them to defend against. here were some of our points. and please dont turn this into a who would win the war thread.

Confeds...
high taxes
strong economy
close nit systems

Rebels...
More resources
tougher position in war related.
more flow form private companies lookin to put astex (and other confed buisness) out of buisness

well, you guys get the point, im just doing my daily ranting. 🙂

By makes more you mean who has a greater cash flow? I'd have to say the confeds for this one. Their planets are close together so shipping costs are significantly less. Taxes just increase the governmet's credits.

If it's total cash you're talking about, definitely the Confederation. Also, I have doubts about the private companies point under the Rebellion; since there's more money in the Confederation, I think most companies would operate either under the Confederation or independently of either major government, so as to allow themselves as large a customer base as possible.

Though I agree in principle, David - even positing higher taxes, I imagine the Confederation is relatively conservative and thus more appealing to business - EV's intro text does describe a significant corporate stake in the formation of the Rebellion...

In time, their pitiful forces grew, with the help of sympathetic corporations, into a formidable navy.**

An interesting question is why corporations would support the Rebellion. Hmm...

As I believe, the intro says that sympathetic corporations aided them financially. Sympathetic is the key word here.

As for cash flow, most definetly the confederation. The intro says, "The outer world were stripped of their resources to benefit the wealthy core worlds." Wealthy core worlds... Plus, the confederation is obviously very trade-oriented. Look at how many freighters can be seen lugging huge amounts of valuable cargo through the confederate worlds.

The Rebellion was (sort of is) very rag-tag, poor and (to quote the intro) pathetic. Only through the grants of sympathetic corporations were they able to amass a fleet capable of even defending them from the confederation.

And if the Rebellion had more money, they would have ships much more powerful. And much more technology. The Rebellion Destroyer is (I love the ship, don't get me wrong) a "converted argosy," and the mantas used by the Rebellion were overproduced ships for a long-ago battle that were taken from junk yards and put back into service by the Rebellion.

I say the rebels, they have what seems to me to be vollenteers fighteing for them where as the Feds have to pay everybody to work, also the pirates seem to be aginst the feds, besides that the rebels seem to be wanting to fight rather than being made to fight, besides that the rebels are more resorceful, they turned a freigther into the most powerful warship in the game in my opinion, where as the frederation has to make their ships, theyre above if using seemingly usless piles of junk into the most formiddible navy between EV and evo. All of this in my opinion.

Yeah, give a rebel destroyer four proton turrets and it kills anything in seconds, and the rebel cruiser? Well need I say more?

I'd say the Confederates. The Rebels may have companies helping hem, but I think that the companies more make "deals" with the Rebels as opposed to giving them money. The Rebels have all the potential to make money, over time, because they do have more resources, they just haven't been at full production yet. Also, for the Rebels to trade goods to make money, they have to travel a lot farther, unlike the Confeds, who can easily, quickly, and safetly carry goods throughout their territories.

Also, you must keep in mind that a corporation may not continue to have the same views as its leadership changes, since companies don't have personal morals. A company may support the Rebellion when it's starting out, but as it gets larger, it's going to want to be able to operate in the lucrative Core Worlds market, which will probably entail breaking its ties with the Rebellion.

I think you were discussing reasons for companies supporting the rebellion a bit ago weren't you? Oh well, I can't remember. Either way.

My reason: Some companies (such as shipbuilders) would be favoured by the corrupt confederation. These would be rewarded with tax breaks and other financial goodies (Such as 'fed fighters ;)). Other industries, say bannana companies, would be heavily taxed and ignored by the 'feds and these would be resentfull of the uneven-handedness of the Confedaration and therefore would support the overthrow of them, and the rebellion.

Makes sense? 🙂

Sympathetic? That might be. But corps might aid the Rebels to desrupt the strangle holds the feds have on the planets and the companied that operate there.

If you were the CEO of a thech reaserch company under the controll of the federation who bought your products for half their worth, you too would want to slip the Rebels a billon credits so they can crush the feds and let your company thrive selling your prducts to the Rebel, Independant and Fed worlds for full price.

Wow. That is an amazingly good point. But I'd have to say the Cofederates have more money, for the same reasons as Luke. 😉
