As others have said, those don't sound like the greatest descriptions...

Also, a lot of my time is spent considering what kind of missions to do, where the thread is going, and how to do each mission to get there, often taking notes on paper and stuff. Even including descs, planning takes longer than actually programming.

Well the idea is still around but almost all of the developers dropped out and the plug is sort of in stasis at present. It got as far an almost complete 500-system galaxy, 30 or so govts, and around 45 ships.

The usual form of the EV Bible is a Microsoft (Barf!) Word file. You need a good word processing or text editing program to open it. If you don't have Word, you will have to launch the application you want to use to read the bible and then use the "open" (or possibly "import" ) command to open the bible document.

I suggest lookin in the archives for the "EV Bibile Annotated Edition" which is in a self-opening document format and contains some very useful additional information and explanation that the original bible lacks.

Q. Do you know why?

A. Matt Burch is a Microserf

On the Nova board, he says he likes to play games on his "Windows PC"

...or go to the (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/ev_bible/")online version.(/url) If all you need to do is read it, thats the way to go; if you try to print it, you'll get some funky stuff on the side due to the images (which I'm working to remedy, believe it or not), but I do believe that you can turn off printing images, which will cause it to work just fine.

The online EV Bible is a great service to the community but not quite the same as having a copy of your very own. It's much easier to open a document resting on your hard drive than to go onlne to check a reference or two - at least for those of us not wealthy enough to have a full-time net connection.

And yes, they are good missions. With strings `n everything.
**

Hmmmmm. First it's 100 missions done by you in two days, then it's 200 missions done by you and 9 friends each doing 20 missions in 2 days. Then in a later post you say the mission descriptions are copied from Bible verses and Bush's campaigns (there were at least 2, he ran for governor of Texas before he ran for president) Frankly none of this or your choice of editing tools inspires confidence.

However, none of my comments are meant to discourage you from making plug-ins, we need all the good quality plugs we can get. Good quality means: a plug that does not crash computers or corrurt data; missions that work the way the designer intended them; planets and systems that are where they are supposed to be; ships and outfits that work as they were designed to and are available where they should be; reasonably good grahpics that look as if they belong where they are and complement each other; and text written in standard English grammar and spelling.

Mission design is up to the developer, whether missions involve problem solving, massive battles, exploration and trading, or a mix of all. Different players have different tastes. The only person you really need to please in making a plug is yourself; if you are satified with the result, you have a successful plug regadless of what anyone else thinks.

(1) For ME, and my TEAM, it's easy. We are sort of poets (we spend some time writing poems and other kinds of things like that) and we don't take hours like you people just thinking of a discription or mission. And we have it all already thought out in our, y'know, that thing partially filling YOUR heads, the BRAIN!

Uh, that word? You spelled it wrong. Yeah, that one right there, next to the period. And you're missing an apostrophe in the word "its".

I'm not in the mood for Chit-Chat. So shut up if you don't ave anything constructive to say.

Well, excuuuuuse me Mr. "I'm in a good enough mood for everyone"...

OK, here's something "constructive" - how's this plugin coming along? Does it have a webpage, or a beta version?

Yes it has a webpage. But the webpage is not being released yet, cuz it's got two more things that need to be done to it. But I can do that in a couple minutes. So, I will release it here if you want it.
And Yes, it's in Beta. it's in Beta 2. Some missions are offleading, and we are doing our utmost to fix that. Which, we have almost done.
So, it's coming along great.

I personally use EV Edit, it works fine for me and makes everything so easy to create and modify. Great for ships, but you need to put them into a 6x6 pict format before putting them into the plug. I use Mechanisto to cerate the ships, but might be transferring to Strata 3d.

Hey, where can you get Strata 3D and Mechanisto?

I have plenty of brains, thanks. In fact, I'm willing to bet that I'm significantly smarter than you are, in any subject in which we overlap. Please don't be so insulting, those of us who have experience with plug development are just trying to get it through to you that your development cycle is way too fast, and you should slow down if you want a decent plug. Three days, or maybe it's 4, can't remember, is way too early to be in beta 2 for a large plug. If you don't spend time planning stuff out, and figuring out and writing good descriptions, you're probably not going to wind up with a plug anyone will want to play.

There's no cause for it to be locked. If it annoys you, don't read it. Also, it's become more discussion of how insanely fast you're trying to develop your plug, and very little with how to open the EV Bible, which was a long time ago. And give Insano some slack, he's running Mac OS under emulation on his PC.

I agree completely; the online version IS a great service.

Er, wait, I meant I agree about having your own copy. Whoops. 🙂

I put the online version up because 1.) I'm sure that there are other people that don't have MS Word, 2.) when discussing the bible and stats and whatnot, its nice to have a reference that is RIGHT there for anyone to see (without having to download; and I have to say, everything on EVula.com loads quickly), and 3.) I wanted to. 🙂

1. If you aren't in the mood for chit chat, don't post here. Simple as that.

2. See below.

You REALLY need to cool your jets. First off, Joe had a point; you are changing your story around a bit. Secondly, "doing missions" does not just consist of writing tons of dësc entries; it consists of other stuff, too. Some of those things CAN take longer to do than a simple mission dialogue, especially if you have a rather extensive plot line that develops over the course of 5 missions or so.

Also, this topic will only be closed if you continue to be, quite frankly, an ass. Take what people say with a grain of salt; by posting here, you leave yourself open to criticism, both positive and negative.

I've not docked you on karma yet, because I thought I would give you a proper warning, and so I have. Between the two things by you that I quoted, as far as I'm concerned, thats two strikes. Next time you fly off the handle like that, I won't pause to type anything.

Sorry if I was a little hot `n bothered. I was full of piss and vinegar those few days. The WTC attack had me all riled up cuz my bro was almost hit by some stuff from the building.
Okay, EVula, I didn't get my "stories" mixed up. And now, the plug is gone. It's dead. It doesn't work. So, it's been delayed for who-knows how long. The thing wrong with it is that when you open the game (ENTER SHIP), it freezes to a black screen. Meaning, you have to hit forc shutdown. (apple+option+start/off button)

Actually, it was a problem on our part. We did not do the intro credits right. We accidentally entered a picture. I don't know who did that. But I did get in everyone's face about it. My team has shaped up and we are on it once again.
