Lightning, of course! Equip it with a bit of extra shielding, engine upgrades, a missile jammer and 2 javelin pods it can kill anything!

How about the kestral? I kinda use that as a fighter (when I'm cheating. I gotta try out the scout ship, ppl say its better then the courier.
A friend of mine wanted to fly a suped up alien cruiser once. So, I upgraded the turning to 100. That was...interesting. The speed was also insane. Here's another idea. Make it so a shuttle will have a kestrel bay, then make it so kestrels have rebel cruiser bays, then make it so that rebel cruisers have confed cruiser bays, then make it so confed cruisers have alien cruiser bays. You have a VERY good force if you do that.

And then give Alien Cruisers Shuttle bays. That is a huge cheat. OTOH, Pirate Kestrels and such could also abuse it quite well.

The best fighter is the alien fighter. The only near-indestructable ship in the game. Okay, sorry for the smart arse, but it's true.
You also forgot to include the manta, it's like a souped up defender with missiles. And the confed fighter, but it just sucks.
Hey, isn't it wierd that confed frigates and rebel destroyers can have four turrets, but only use two? wtf is going on there?

I have to say the Lighting. It's fast, but not as weak as as the defender. and it as missle's and javelins.
I have to say the rapier. It has way more armor and firepower, and it can survive three missles, unlike the lighting and defender.

Heh, you can't even fly it in my (url="http://"http://members.home.net/e-gamerguy1/ev/alien_invaders/main.html")plug(/url) without cheating. You may, however, be able to launch them without cheating.

Or... one can buy an Alien ship with a launching bay, human ship with a launching bay, or purchase an Alien Fighter bay.
