What's up with those people at MGF?

I just went over to (url="http://"http://www.macgamefiles.com")www.macgamefiles.com(/url) to see if they had mirrored the full version yet, and out of 6 reviews of the demo, 4 said POG sucked and gave it a 1!

Just shows that some people don't want to spend any time on anything. More than likely, they died pretty quick, and got mad when they had to restart because the demo doesn't save your game.

It's a general rule that people usually don't bother to say anything unless they are trashing a game. You'll see reviews trashing every game out there, from Quake to Diablo. Just the way some people work...

I'm confident that Pillars of Garendall will go over well -- heck, I'm addicted to it, too 🙂

I was forced to go to MGF to download the demo as well and for the first five minutes I was inclined to agree, at least partially, with those people. Then I played long enough to buy a new weapon and now I'm hooked! I think I've completely finished what the demo has to offer though. :frown:

I think I might head over there and give a major rebuttal...

Some people are continuing to play the limited demo version for 10-15 minutes, then trashing the game. Silly. Do people really have that short of an attention span these days?

I think it is partly an attention span thing. I also think some folks just dislike everything and feel compelled to share their frustrated little lives with the rest of us. The anonymity of email/internet posts bring this negativity out.

Als there is a cultural set of young consumers now who will rip on anything that isn't the absolute top of the line in graphics/music/cool... etc... etc... So if there is any game out there that is any better in any area then another game that isn't as good in that area must suck.

I kinda figure... here is a game that someone else put their time into and are charging me a couple hours work for.... its cheaper then other games, its got a more personal feeling of community around the folks that made it... and I think it is really a professionally competitive good game... what the heck do I have to criticize that?

And even if I didn't like a game... why would I go out of my way to leave a brainless rip on it in a public fourm?

Who knows... I wouldn't sweat a few whinners.

Here are some posts of mine to the Pillars of Garendall beta list a few weeks ago, that summarize my opinions on the subject:

Quote

-- PoG has a wonderful care-free, "fun" -- even youthful feel to it. I
realize that Baldur's Gate II is on the way out the door, and certainly
the millions of dollars spent producing the game will show, and I'm sure
it'll be a great game. PoG has a really fun mood and feel to it, though
-- the mood in PoG is like the fresh air of spring. It doesn't take
itself too seriously, there's plenty to do, and you can have fun just
exploring! A committee could not make this game. Sigo's fort is a
wonderful example of this.

Quote

-- I've commented on this before, but I'd like to reiterate it -- I really
like the blend of console arcade game and RPG that is PoG. For instance,
picking up gold and items scrolls their name upwards. It's a very console
arcade game thing to do, I like it in PoG. I'm not the type who loves
micromanaging stats, items, etc. when playing an RPG -- I think hardcore
RPGers love that kind of thing, but the majority of people want something
much lighter.

Quote

-- The graphical touches throughout the game are wonderful. The Beenox
artists deserve quite a bit of praise for creating artwork that is
fanciful, fun, and creative. It's really cool to see touches like the
oddly shaped buildings, logs half sticking out of the dirt, cobblestone
bridges, etc. It adds quite a bit of flavor to the game.

Quote

-- First, it's truly a pleasure to be able to play PoG in a window on OS
X. Very few games work well with OS X, and the ones that do all take over
the entire screen, which really sucks for the way I work and play (I'm
usually doing several things at once). Kudos for making this work well on
OS X, which isn't an easy thing to do given the state of the OS X APIs

Well, I'd say that's a good testament to the greatness of PoG.

Someone should link to it in their review...
