Battle for Sol - Episode II: Discussion

Umm, Macavenger. What are we going to do about your post since it was based on the stats of a battle that never took place?

The pirates seem to be "re-fitting" their ships with all new weaponry. Now in real life, overhauling takes months, and is expensive. I think refitting should cost money, and demobilize a fleet for several posts. Point made. Please clarify the point Mac.

In real life this webstory wouldn't have moved as fast as it does. Besides, we have entire worlds at our disposal. Re-fitting won't take that long. We just grab a few hundred thousand workers and force them to change our weapons. And in any case you guys started off with highly advanced weapons while we started off with the basics. Quick re-fitting is a neccessary force to make it a bit easier.

Oh, so you can buy a really cheap warship with no weapons and put weapons on it for free? I think that once a ship is built, it cannot be modified.

No. That would be blatant cheating. However, in the real world, re-fitting to update weapons on ships is done all the time. Usually it will take some time but as I mentioned before we have an entire world beneath us to use for this purpose. And as I said earlier, in re-fitting we are simply trying to make it a bit better odds between the ships. Our shields on even the best ships suck. We need to balance that out.

Rak has a valid point here. You don't just have a whole world to use for refits, if you start grabbing people and trying to make them refit your ships for you, most likely what will happen is that you'll get shot. I admit you pirates have some disadvantages, but that doesn't mean you get to throw the rulebook out the window. There's no provision for updating ships, though it's a realistic enough thing that we'll allow it, but don't think of it as an instantaneous, free process.

And if they shot us we would start orbital bombardment. What are the provisions for re-fitting ships?

The pirates only have 250,000 credits right now, so I don't think you're going to get much upgrading done at this point.

We didn't buy any ships on page 5 so we should get money from the 40 or so systems we have. Not all are visible yet. So we should have at least 200 million credits. Sounds like enough.

That's a little high there. I'd say a tenth of that is more reasonable. Turrets don't exactly cost 100,000 credits in EV.

I think 100,000 per turret is pretty reasonable, considering the capabilities of the Photon Turret. 25,000 for Guns, 5,000 for secondary ammo and 200,000 for secondary launchers might be more accurate.

I hope my posting in this thread does not violate any proper board procedures but on another thread I received an invitation to join in your ongoing story from General Rak and Spl Cadet. I felt that it would be more appropriate to respond here in this thread than on the other thread.

To both of you: thank you for your offer to join in, however, as a newbie to posting on these boards, I feel that I do not have enough of the story game play skills that the rest of you have to contribute in a meaningful way at this time. I will admit however that when Kaptain Karl ‘retired’ from active piracy, I was tempted to post and offer to let the pirates at least use my name so that they could have the services of another fleet to control, sort of at the discretion of the pirate leader who would actually control all actions of the fleet in my name. I’m not sure how that would fit into the rules of the game though so I refrained from doing so.

Before closing, I do have a question: Is it okay for non-players to post here if they have a question about the Battle for Sol II storyline? I have some, but if you would prefer that the thread is kept free for actual game players, I would certainly understand.

Thanks again for your kind offer and to all of you, keep up the story, I am finding it interesting and fun to read.
