Proton Cannon vs. Laser Cannon

You calced in what difference turrets do. This is comparing the cannons. The Proton turret is MUCH better than the laser turret. Also, if you have 4 Laser cannons, and 1 Proton cannon, that would do more damage to shields than 5 Proton cannons, and you'd still save room. Going against the Alien cruiser, you want Laser cannons and Proton turrets. Not just one type.

You also made a mistake in your calculations. Laser Turrets do .5 less damage to shields and only 2.5 to armour than the cannons. The armour damage in resedit is 0.

So, talking just about cannons, you want lasers, and maybe a proton or 2 depending on how many cannon slots you have. The room saved lets you carry more missles as well.

Only on Turrets. Cannons have 2 Mass Damage. I was only checking that one because this is a cannon poll, and for some reason, I assumed they would be the same.
I calced in turrets on capital ships for a more general comparison of lasers to protons. Those ships can hold them, so I threw them in. Also, for the sake of this being a straight up comparison, I didn't fill remaining space with the others. This is Lasers vs. Protons, not Lasers-plus-remaining-Protons vs. Protons.
And, I'm comparing 4 Lasers to 5 Protons because you can only have 4 Lasers, but you can have 5 Protons.
Seriously, in all fairness, I think these are pretty even, but I voted Lasers because their space more compatible with the ships I use Cannons on.

Not really, because if you read Asmodaethur's post, you'll see the lead the laser cannon holds in damage and range...
