give me a break, im new. Also what if you want to be a pirate? How do you tell if ships are pirate or fed, or reb?

I don't mean to be critical, but try actually reading the documentation first. Then, play the game a bit to get the feel of it. After you've managed to finish a few mission strings, and you really want to do another mission string, but can't figure you how to, then ask the boards.
And, as for capturing planets, use logic: you want the Confeds to like you. Do you really want to start a war against them? Do you really want to attack them to make them like you? Answer those questions in your head and you should be able to figure out on your own which planets to dominate.

-Okay, if you want to be Confed, you kill Rebel ships, and capture Rebel planets, if you dare.
-I'm not sure if you CAN be pirate, but I think the more pirates you kill, the more they hate you. I'm not sure.
-Pirates carry more money than civilians.
-Taking over planets gets you 1,000 to 4,000 credits A DAY!
-If you manage to take over a pirate planet, surrounding systems will like you, and the pirates give more money.
-If you hang around Sol's spaceport bars you should get missions from the Confeds, if you kill lots of pirates and Rebels.
-Ditto Rebels, only hang out at Palshife or Spica, kill Confeds, and take over Confed planets.
-Click Tab. It will scroll thru all ships in a system, and tell who their alliances are. ex. Confed, Rebel, pirate, trader, Astex, Starbound, ConEx, Alien, or if nothing is listed, they're civilian.
-Don't try taking over planets or killing Rebels or Confeds until you're at least in a corvette, unless you're really good, or really dead.

There isn't a pirate storyline or anything, because the pirates are not a government. If you go around randomly attacking and plundering other ships, you are a pirate.

You could download (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=ev&category;=plugins&display;=rating&file;=GS.sit")GS,(/url) and then you have a pirate storyline. There are some pirate missions without plugins, but not enough to make up an entire mission string.

Actually, you can get them on your good side by attacking everyone else.

Just remember two things.
1 If you dominate a planet bounty hunters in kestrels come after you.
2 Confeds don't like it if you kill bounty hunters near their systems.
