Everyone loves to bash Defenders, but the subject at hand remains. I just bought an Argosy and Sup-ed it up. (Mind you I make $62,000 a day, so money is not a factor) I put on the following: 3 Proton Canons 2 Proton Turrets 1 Dur-a-steel 4 Shield Capacitors 1 Shield Booster 1 Afterburner 1 Javilin Pod 999 Javilin Rockets 1 Hawk Bay 2 Hawks 8 Mass Expansions 1 RSC 1 Engine 1 Accel
I was able to take down a Bounty Hunter (Kestrel) And By the way, the Clipper was dead, easy.
I maintain; most underestimated ship.

Rawzer, stop soiling OUR ships.Mantas are 500 billion time better than the pile of napkens (defender).

I dislike the Argosy.
No matter what you do to it, it's still to slow, too way and FAR to low on shielding.
My advice? Buy a Corvette, or if you like being the underdog, a Rapier of Lightning.

Just to let you know, when I killed that Bounty Hunter, I didn't use any fancy "strategy." I just let him, and his ships, empty thier missiles. Then I launced my Hawks who took care of the Lightnings (with my help) Then I sent my Hawks for the big kill and assisted them again. I also used by battle procedure of fire-all-hell-at-em and whoever has lives after the tussle wins.
Trust me it has enough shields and goes a max of 350, 75 less then the Kestrel. And with the After Burner you can avoid anything.

I'd say more like twice as good. Anyway, that wasn't much of an insult. Look at the Argosy. It's obviously not the best ship in the world, and the Rebels upgraded it to get the Destroyer. A very righteous ship.

The most underrated ship is the Bulk Freighter!
Everybody thinks it is garbage. But it has 150 tons of space for upgrades, and after upgrading, (tritanium armor is required) has decent shields and armor. 10 jumps of fuel feeds the afterburner nicely so it can dodge. The 500 tons of cargo space earn you lots of money. This is the best trading ship in the game. Just don't try to kill anything bigger than a corvette with it.

Pardon me while I try to stop laughing... You have a point, but even upgraded, the Bulk Freighter is a slow and easy target. In my opinion, it's the worst ship along with the Shuttle and Defender.

Hey, Skyblade. Don't forget the mighty Executive Transport ... for the worst ships group, that is.

The most underestimated ship is BY FAR the escape pod. When you are in that damn thing, nothing can touch you. Bloody annoying when you are on the shooting end...

Well, I think we are getting off track here, we are starting to analyze ships like the Executive Transport, and escape pod! (is that even a ship?) Cmon people, in reality, the worst ship that you could ever buy, I mean ever, even if you worked so hard to upgade it, would be the shuttle... All the way. Even a defender could take on a decked out shuttle. But really, I think that the reason for this conversation was not to judge things like the escape pod (!?) but to judge ships that people actually buy and that fly! As for my vote, the most underratted ship still has to be the Argosy. But seeing so many other peoples positive opinions of it introduces a question to me... Seems nobody here sees the true beauty of the Defender. Oh well, I'll enlighten you a bit. Make a little money running cargo around, enough to buy a defender and hire a light freighter. Start trading, get more freighters to carry your cargo. Nothing can catch you, so the pirates who try to screw with you never even see you. You don't have to invest much into upgrades, since it's already a very fast ship (Same speed and maneuverability as an alien fighter, nearly the same acceleration) It's the perfect trading vessel for the short trade routes, since nothing can ever catch you in it.

Yeah, forgot about that one...Too bad it is such a terribly-protected craft, because it's as cool as your modern day Lear Jet.
The defender has no beauty. While flying throuh the system a ship is heading rihgt for you ONE missle, ONE, hits you and you are toast.Thats not beauty thats scuecide, worse than scuecide.
Actually, one missile usually takes the Defender's shields down to around 2 to 5%. The second missile always finishes it off, though...
Actually the defender is a good ship, especially as an escort. they are cheap to hire, so hire a lot. The problem is that there is no Defender Bay. That sounds like a pretty good plugin idea.

Follow the link below: the Talon plugin makes a Defender Bay available (among other things).

There is nothing better than a luxery liner. Why else would Andrew Welch be in one? Also note that his is well outfitted

Of course I know! That is the fun thing a personalities. Matt's Kestral made mine look really weak! Never managed to get his below 97%!
So now we're saying Matt's Kestrel is the most underestimated ship?
