Okay, I bought a fighter bay and 2 Lightnings to go with them, and when I'm flying around, it says I don't have any. What's up with that?

What it sounds like is that you just bought yourself a Kestrel: correct? However, everytime I buy a Kestrel, I get the lightning bay and fighters with no problem. Have you actually tried buying the lightnings in the outfits section, or did they not come with your ship when you bought it?

You may have bought the Hawk fighter bay, which will only use Hawks. To use lightnings(without a plugin)you must have a Kestrel.

Hmm, there was sopmeone else with similar lightning problems... perhaps tha tis something to look out for. Sorry for the loss, but if there is no way to fix it, since it is a glitch, i would reccomend you just get some sort of cheater plug in and replace them for free, then delete the cheater plug in.

I agree with Macintosh Man to provide you with a clear answer:
You bought a Hawk Fighter Bay.

i agree you must have bought a hawk bay, i suggest you sell it and try again, that is if you have a kestrel. 'cos only a kestrel can hold 'em. like only a reb cruiser can hold mantas.

Okay, okay, I realized I made a mistake. I'm currently in a Rebel Cruiser, and I thought it would be coolto have 4 mantas AND 2 lightnings. But if you look at the description of the lightnings, you'll see that it says they are only available to a Kestral.
My bad.

Hehe...That's a slight detail. I wish the Lightning Bay was purchasable, though...
Yeah, I had lightning trouble, but not this kind. Mine vanished when I had the tractor beam fitted to my kestrel. Make sure you launch them before you land pn palshife at the end of that mission. I also thought my fighter bay could hold two lightnings and two hawks, and spent a million on two of the useless things.

What is this "Tractor Beam"?

Are you new to EV? You get a tractor beam after you finish the Rebel mission string, you also get all the Rebel ships(and weapons) exept the Escourt Carrier. Its pretty cool you can drag disabled ships around.(pile them up and blow them to smitherines)HA HA HA !

I much prefer the repulser beam of Override...atleast it comes in handy in combat. I like to use it against swarms of on-coming fighters, while throwing salvos of rockets and turret fire at them.
Do you get the tractor beam at the end of the Astrodyne missions? I haven't gotton it yet. I already beat the alien missions, too. Help?
Hmmm....well, the important thing is that we'v all lerned somthing.
To tell you the truth I finished those missions a long time ago and dont remember most of the spisific details. But I know that it's a secondary weapon, and at the end of the mission the official sayes some thing along the lines of "your ship has been equiped with our latest technology".I lost mine after I was destroyed by some ship, it stinks. If you want it realy bad ResEdit it in to your ship. Thats what I did.
Okay, I haven't read what everybody else has said but I think I know the problem:
You bought a second hand Kestrel for 7 million credits after doing a special mission.
These don't have Lightnings and have less shields.

What do you mean used ship. Is there a second hand option in the ship yard I dont know about. And yes the repulsor beam is awsome.Fly around pushing all the little ships out of the way.
Not exactly "second hand", but you can find a mission string where a rogue shipyard produces cheap ones without fighters.
The mission begins on a derelict ship, so everyone who doesn't know what I mean keep a look out.
You mean that big Astex ship because I got a misson like that but is it the thing that you are talking about.
