Any Bugs, Post Em here.

After completing the second mission for the non-ARC guys where you are supposed to place a tracer program on the ARC server and sending the reply confirming my success, I received no return message. Is this a bug? I've sent the message multiple times, sped up time, and tried running the program again, but I still get neither the "not yet done" or "done" letters from the company who is not ARC (I can't remember their name at the moment).

Why'd you quote me in your post? I see no reply...

I was also unable to pay my fine in a recent game. They claimed I hadn't paid it even though I had, with my money deducted. Lost that game. Maybe I was just too stupid to use the bank interface correctly, but I followed the instructions.**

I'm currently having the exact same trouble with the payment issue. I'm going to freaking lose all my progress just because of a bug!! Help! I know I'm doing this right, I've paid three times, and it still doesn't register. Definitely a bug. Please send me an email at isaak@mail.com when fixed.

This may not be a bug but it's worth asking about. I've been backing up my .usr files every time a get a new gateway or payoff or something, and it's good i did because eventually my original user got busted. so i renamed one of the backups (to something other than the initial user name), logged in with it, did some stuff, logged out, and when i log in again i'm back where i started (nothing i did with the new login gets saved). and this keeps happening, no matter what i do before logging out or what i rename the file to. any solutions?

The description of Trace Tracker V4.0 appears to have a longer description than the window would allow, but there is no way to scoll down (at least that I can find).

------------------

I think I can add some detail to the ARC mission bug.

I did a mission for them and when I replied to the mission to get paid, I got a new email in response - but the old one did not disappear. It stayed until I deleted it (and lost status because of it). Anyway, Not only that, but when I tried three times to rely to end the original mission - I got the new email three times, along with the 10 grand (3x) and Revelation (3x).

I also got the message from the other group (don't remember their name) that wanted the revelation program. They offered 15 grand for it and when I sent it to them, NOTHING HAPPENED. The emails stayed and I had to eventually delete them (I hate a cluttered desktop).

Unfortunately, I no longer have the associated .usr as I am unregistered and have only played for a short time (I wanted to start over and liked the hacker name I picked).

Sidenote - It might be a good idea to let people know somewhere that the 3 grand you start with is borrowed - a loan from the bank. I did not know that until I got a fine and had to go to my account at the bank. Then I realized I had to pay it off (with interest).

Sidenote - One of the machines offered had a broadband radio connection that is supposed to make it impossible to find - yet I got nailed anyway. What's up?

I'd definately download a "Shh music!" plugin - the tunes are nice and all, but after you've listened to them a while they get very repetitive.

Terrible news. I can't play this game, simply because the incessant soundtrack is maddening! Shame too, because the game looks cool. Ideally there would be a way to turn the soundtrack off, but keep the necessary audio feedback to play the game.

Ah, just read more of the posts... glad to see there's work moving in this direction. I'll keep my hopes up... the game has really picqued my interest. But not at the risk of losing my sanity... 😉

I've seen a lot of interface bug :
? One time, while deconnecting while on world map, the computer names started to flicker for 10sec
? The Monitor Bypass stay in Connection analyse window, even after I deconnected myself, it is also calles "Proxi bypass" in the lower left corner desc text, and and stay at the front of the screen when I open the World map.
? Log deleter v4 often have a curious visual bihaviour
? Flashing buttons, that flash during tutorial for example, don't flash anymore after I get on the Agent selection screen...

This is all i remember...

I've noticed a few more bugs:

1. Not infrequently, when calling administrators to obtain their voiceprint, they will sound as though they are talking in slow-motion on the phone (very low voice, stretched out words, etc. -- as though the software were playing back the recording at half speed). Later, when using the voice analyzer with their recording, it will play them back sounding slow, again. Quitting and re-launching Uplink seems to help sometimes, and, sometimes it doesn't.

2. When in the HUD:Connection Analyzer, the background behind the diamond-symbol for proxies, firewalls, and monitors is black instead of transparent. I've seen some screenshots of the PC version, and they don't have a black box around those symbols. Very minor, but it looks slightly ugly.

3. On the world map, sometimes clicking "load" when you have a saved connection will cause the server names to begin "jumping around." Logging out of your gateway and back in seems to fix this.

4. If you start a connection (tested with 1 jump) from your gateway to a server, and then click the load button, the saved jumps will be loaded, and the original single jump will persist.

5. On the world map, server outlines (either admin or user) will show up overtop of the mouse-over-labels.

Also, two or three times, Uplink has crashed when I quit it. Here are the crash reports:

Just forgot one, the funiest one...

- i made myself an acount on every bank in order to have better bouncing than with Public servers. For some reasons I got scan by a server witout I could do anything (I clicked on the link instead of + in the servers list...) and I received a mail with a 1000cr fine taht I paid, but count I had to transfert my credits to was mine, and so, another money transfert later, I got all my money back...

I had also an other one, but I can't remember what... :frown:

Sometimes, I can't type in text fields. For example, I was trying to clear my logs from the Uplink Test Machine. I attempted to type cd log. Nothing happened. I waited, literally, a full real-time minute for the text to appear, suspecting it was lagging. It did not appear. Yes, I hit enter. Yes, I hit Post.

This has happened more than fifteen times. Why is this?

You are in the directory. I do not think it does anything to acknowledge it. Or is the message not dieplaying on the console?

Scope: I meant to reply, but for some reason it dissapeared. What I was going to say was that you have to start a new Uplink user after you add new LAN's because the map is already generated. This seems highly annoying, and I doubt they will fix it as they want to keep it equal with the PC version.

If you had already created a new user, I'm not sure what it wrong, Sorry about the slip up above.

No. It's an interface problem. You know how when you hit keys on your little keyboard? And they're supposed to show up on the screen, right? Sometimes, that doesn't happen.

Well, this game is starting to piss me off 'cause I've lost something like 12 user files because I somehow always get caught. I don't know how someone can read an empty log and figure out my IP, but they did...

Here's a real bug... whenever trace_tracker v4 shows over 433 seconds remaining, it just shows 433 seconds and beeps repeatedly until it goes below 433.

Et je dirai: "C'est la vie!"

I encountered one today. I hacked into a real low-security server to just steal a file and get out. I had something like 450 seconds before they caught me, so I was in no hurry. My mom comes down and wants to talk to me, so I pause the game. Once I restart the game, after about ten minutes, the trace tracker (v 4.0) tells me I have 0 seconds left and beeps constantly. But I wasn't actually traced, and I was able to finish up what I was doing and get out. It seems as if trace timing doesn't stop when the rest of the game is paused.
