Hey, I'm downloading Ares as we... I... while I'm typing this. Anyone have some helpful tips for playing it?

Here's a tip of mine...Don't build tons of Ishiman fighters. I used to be crazy about numbers, and the fighters really stink. Stick with cruisers, and anything else that's bigger. When you register the game, you'll be able to build ships like the Heavy Destroyer and Carrier.

Be careful around the Salrellians. The like to use their cloaking device, and are far superior in ships and weapons' technology to the Ishiman race.

Don't get scared around Cantharan Carriers...They seem dangerous, but they are really pieces of junk metal taped together armed with potato chip launchers. They're easy to destroy, and if you fly circles around them, all their potato chips will land far behind you.

The Gaitori...Hah! Every one of their ships isn't fit for combat duty, (with the exception of their excellent heavy destroyer) and even their weapons aren't very harmful. Sure, the pellet guns might sound menacing, but if that scares you, gain up behind the slow-pokes and show them the Ishiman way of elliminating ships. Just watch out for the Gunship's pulsers...Anyway, that's my word of warning. 🙂

-Download Captin Carnotaurs Strategy Guide

-Whenever engaging Gatori, get rid of the Gunships first

-Don't get too close to the Armo-whatever-they-re-called Carriers, because if you do, you will be toast

-In you have a Eejeeton Cruiser, a Ishiman HVD(heavy destroyer), or anything else with long-rnge primary weaonry, don't move in close range, because then your long range is whasted

-Don't build Human Cruisers, they SUCK

Human Cruisers...It's too bad they are such terrible ships, because they really are awesome.

Meh. If you think concussive pellet guns are harmless, try slugging it out with one of their cruisers, not moving. They only seem to suck in Ares because the Gaitori aren't capable of constantly hitting something. (And if you REALLY want proof that they're nasty, wait till WITV comes out and take on some Rebel Corvettes).

Meh, again. Did you know that their pulse weapon is almost twice as rapid as a fusion pulse reactor, thereby doing nearly the same damage? If they costed 4 resource units instead of five, I think they'd be worth the price (although I'd still build the gunships, instead).

Well, any weapon can be dangerous if you just sit in front of it, letting it slowly tear you to pieces. The pellet gun is pretty bad when compaired to almost any other Ares weapon, and I only find it dangerous when the Gaitori attack in numbers (Which they often do.) If you've got a Ishiman Cruiser or anything fast, taking out a trio of Gaitori Cruisers really isn't hard, so long as you stay on their tales. I guess you could sum this up as: The Gaitori's stength comes in numbers. I don't actually hate the Gaitori, in fact via mulitplayer, I love playing Gaitori against Gaitori because their ships are so cool. (Ecspecially the Heavy Cruiser...Which I usually call "The Scorpian.")

Gaitori HVC..? Do you mean Gunship..? Do you mean Scorpion..?

What I think I'll do is try fighting Gaitori with a high skill level a little later today. I'll see what I find.

Ah, but you see, concussive pellet guns don't "slowly tear you to pieces" when you sit in front of them. Concussive pellet guns are very nice, as far as beam weapons go. The Gaitori just suck with them because their ships aren't maneuverable enough to manage to fire at you for a while, they can just get grazing blows with them.

True, but even if you are sitting in front of a Gaitori's pellet gun, you will not get destroyed as fast as any other weapon in the game would. Sure, pellet guns can bring down your shields rather quickly if, especially if you're in a smaller ship, you expose yourself long-term in front of pellet guns. But other weapons would destroy you much more quickly if you exposed yourself during the same amount of time.

I do agree that most weapons would kill you much faster than they do, however, the concussive pellet guns are a beam weapon. As far as beam weapons go, they do a ton of damage in relatively short time. The only ones that I can think of that do more are leptons, newos, and asb...

They're only technically a beam weapon, remember. But what do you mean by Gaitori HVC?

I don't even see why the pellet gun is catogorized as a beam weapon...It shoots pellets, (basically a space machine gun) much like the mass driver in Escape Velocity which certainly wouldn't make it a energy weapon...

In the Ares code and stuff, concussive pellets are invisible beams. Concussive pellet guns create a concussive pellet "beam" and a spark each time they fire.

And answer the questions about the Gaitori HVC.

Ok, that makes sense now...I was thinking of the weapon as it is seen in the game, not how it was listed under the Ares coding. I like the sound the pellet gun makes...It's pretty cool.

Question about a Gaitori HVC? Hmmm...Pardon my ignorance, but I don't remember seeing a question about it. What is a HVC anyway? (I thought it was suppost to be HVD)

HVC stands for heavy cruiser. What's this that you said about their heavy cruiser?

They don't have one, do they? I'm pretty sure that they dont. 😛

Ah, I see your point now. You see, I'm a person called a human being. Thousands of years ago, two were created, and ever since they've never been perfect. To this day, the human being still makes mistakes, which is exactly what I did. 🙂 Sorry about that, I meant Heavy Destroyer...

Kill Gaitori gunships first. even in a cruiser, most other stuff is harmless to you.
