Hello All
Basically, the story is...
I want to make a full scale RPG with Coldstone, at the same level as PoG etc. Only problem is, I can't do anything but code. So I'm looking for anyone willing to help me with this. I only really want 1 graphics artist and 1 sound and music person, as I find once too many people join the project, things slow down. The hope would be for these people to join my freeware/shareware software company, which would then begin to release more projects. I'm afraid i can't offer money, unless the project becomes shareware, in which case the money generated would be split evenly. So if you are skilled in any of the above, and are interested in doing it, email me at randalflag@hotmail.com or add that address to MSN Messenger.
Thanks a lot
Joe

If you have a specialty in one area, why not take a look at the community project a few topics down. It may seem to have exactly the problem you mentioned at first, but if it's organized well it has the potential to become a much deeper/more complex game than any individual/small group could manage.
------------------ Cosmicrat - Ruler of the universe. Cosmic Rat - A rodent in space. You decide...
I've already read that, and i'm afraid it's not for me. I have a few ideas for a plot and how i want the gamer to be. With a community project, your forced to settle for someone else's idea's of how the game should be, which i don't like as I lose touch with the game and become un-interested, which slows things down. By keeping it stricly to my own views, I can keep up-to-date with the progress of the game and make changes to scripts, plots etc, knowing all the consequences on other aspects of the game the changes will have, not having to worry whether i might be interfering with other parts of the game.
I know this sounds very selfish, but by doing it this way, people stay focused on their own task, and work much quicker, producing the finished product quicker, and with less conflict, so i must therefore ask again that anyone with experience in graphics, 3d modeling, sound fx, music etc to email me so we can get this project off the ground.
Remember, no volunteers means i have to release an ugly noisy game ot the market. Don't make me do it!
P.S. Due to the recent problems with Coldstone, I am waiting for the update to be released before I start, so it gives plenty of time for volunteers.
Hello. Several things: 1. If you do decide to work on the community project (assuming that it goes somewhere) you would be able to get some practice with coldstone projects. CS projects on the whole are entirely different than traditional programming projects. If the community project stays as a thread and ends up being shelved part way through, its good experience, but would be somewhat of a waste of time. 2. As for graphic and music development, asking for help works (sort of) but the most effective way to do it is by yourself. There are several free 3d engines availible, like Blender, Wings3D, and Clayscape. Meshwork is free, but they still want you to pay for it if you use it frequently. Music development can be done using Garage Band, Apples new iLife addition. But, for this you need an OS X Mac along with 50 US dollars.

I dont think you understand. I SUCK at graphics and sounds. I have tried many times to better myself in these area's but to no avail. And like i said in my first post, I want this game to be of a high quality, and even if i practised this stuff for years, the quality i would be able to produce would still be very low, which is why I don't bother.
Also, I still want extra members for ImagineSW, as being just me it sounds a little stupid.
There is no code to CGE, If you propose to do a full-scale RPG like POG there will be very little creative "coding" for you to do.
So really you'd be doing next to nothing while someone else builds well over 200+ ( closer to 1000+ ) graphics likely without sketches, even if you were to process the graphics, this doesn't pan out.

Actually ellrex I have to disagree with you on this one. I too hired some artists to help me with my project and I feel I'm pulling my own weight. You can't judge him as doing next to nothing when you have no idea what he is doing. For example the world I am currently working on is about 1700 PoG sized maps. Which please don't tell me is next to nothing.
PS: On a rather insegnificant note you can use code in Coldstone on events, locations, and parts of the spells. You do this by opening them in text programs such as BBedit and TextEdit.

A major large scale game, made to a audio/visual high standard, with coldstone without any "sorcery", requires more effort on the artist's part than the writing, map making, etc.
CGE is designed to be this way, "just add content".
This is mentioned repetitively in nearly every advertisement for the engine.
One cannot account for a sense of grandeur, or a high tolerance tedious repetitive processes.
There is no code.
Editing the files with a text editor is pointless.
No matter how stellar your story is ( evidence the huge list of subpar clichés/plots used in some of the best selling enjoyable RPGs of all time ), a video game is a visual experience by definition.
If all you bring is the patience to endure hours of clicking and dragging...
There are many people with artistic audio/visual talents who know nothing about story telling or games. The people who frequent this forum are, for the most part, the story tellers. Those here who excell in art or music usually have their own projects going. I think you might find the artists you want by exploring other avenues. Have you considered looking in the art or music departments of a local school or college for talent?

What do you mean by "without any 'sorcery'"? Hmm, Ellrex have you ever finished a game in Coldstone? It's a lot more than clicking and dragging. There is tech support, balencing the items with their gold price and how much and NPC drops. I got a taste of this when I ran that beta of Legends a few months back. Also you may want to replace some of Coldstone's iterface layouts because they can be limiting.
d1937, As RD said, Look in your school for an art board at your school. If they don't have an art board then go ask one of the art teachers at your school. I found 1 of my artists for my game at my schooland have been impressed with her artistic talents. Trust me there is most likely some good talent in every school.

Sorcery would be building a game with uncommon elements, doing something with a little ingenuity.
Without any sorcery, following the letter; Move this interface field here, fill out this field here, click this button, write this down, click here, drag this, save that, press this.
Microsoft Excel is more complicated than CGE.
So you talk about balancing gold and item drops, as i recall those are are handled by a checkbox and a textfield, no? Seems like a lack of planning...detailed written analytical character sketches would take care of this.
Have i ever finished a game in CGE?, maybe you haven't been paying attention, but i gaurantee you won't miss what's coming next. The first sign will appear before wednesday morning...
Ellrx, I find your post just downright insulting.
Not to worry, though. I continue to value you, as one post doth not a person make. In other words, to be insulted is my choice, and I choose to do so.

Don't worry, we all want to help. It's just that if most of us did your graphics, you'd have to come up with a good reason for the evolution of stickmen.

The point is, d1937, that you are asking in the wrong place. As Celchu suggested, most of the people who gather here are not much better at graphics than you are. Those that are better (and there are a few) have their own projects which are time consuming.
Here, you can find lots of help on how to get through the complexities of the game engine, help on figuring out how to do things that are not self-evident, help on getting the formats correctly done, etc.
You are asking the football team to help with the cheerleaders and half-time band presentations. Those are different skills done by artists who don't need to know how to make a game.
I'll be writing some tutorials soon on how to make graphics for CS. Issue 2 of the CRC Mag should have a tutorial on making a simple crate graphic in Strata 3D. Have a look on the internet for some tips on making graphics. Look in the CS links page. I think there are some sites there that might be of help.
I would help but I am busy with my own projects at the moment (who knew that I'd miss so many bugs in GoT ) ------------------ Pilky (url="http://"http://www.mcubedsw.com")M cubed homepage(/url) (url="http://"http://www.coldstonerc.cjb.net")Coldstone Resource Centre (now with NEW forum)(/url) Cheesiest film line of all time "Flash I love you but we only have 14 hours to save the earth" from Flash Gorden
