Hello, i know this is going to bother a few people here, but i would love to get a legal full version of Coldstone. And since ambrosia will not sell it anymore, i am asking if anyone here is tiring of their version, or if anyone is just disappointed with the program enough to sell me their version.
Sorry, i'm desperate.
please email me if you are interested.

What bothers me, nod, is that, on the face of it, this sounds legitimate. However, my license code will not function on your computer. If it did, the software would be too easy to pirate. If I did want to help you out (which I don't,) I cannot in any legal way sell you the right to use the software. That right can only be granted by Ambrosia and as of now they have retracted their offer to so grant. You are, I'm afraid, out of luck on this. ~RD

Sorry, but only Ambrosia and Beenox (grrr) are qualified to sell Coldstone or Pillars of Garendall. There are tons of pirated license codes floating around, but using them is highly discouraged here. ------------------ (url="http://"http://www.lordofthecows.com/ambrosiamemberstonight/")Ambrosia Members Tonight!(/url) (url="http://"http://www.lordofthecows.com/music/board_members/spamguy/moderatorsong.mp3")The Moderator Song(/url) Jingle Bells, Windoze smells, (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum61/HTML/001202.html")The Blue Mushroom Pub(/url) rocks (all 25+ pages worth)! Huh? Why can't it work on his computer? If a person sells his or her version of Coldstone, sends the CD and the license code, then why won't it work? I have two computers. I downloaded Coldstone off of the CD onto each of them. The same code works the same on both computers. Is it illegal? No. I bought the thing and I'm the one who's using it.
I've sold games and software application programs on ebay. Of course, I also send the code. The other person's buying my copy from me, usually at a lower price than I bought it of course. I then no longer have the game or software application program. There's no way you can tell me that it's illegal.
Humph. And I'm the person who's a legal eagle, especially with copyright laws. But I still don't think it's illegal to sell your own CD.

Yes, i'm not asking someone to pirate their registration code or anything. i just would like to purchase a used copy of the product. I don't see any legal issues with this if the person selling me their copy removes it from their computer.
Nothing locks CS or any Ambrosia app down to a single computer. They are usually personalized as they are created based on your name (I think) though other than that there should be nothing illegal about it.

I dont want to be rude, but I belive that is illegal. You buy the license and you have the right to use it on one computer. If you want to use it on more then one computer you'll need another license (but anyway, who cares? I doubt anybody really have the time to do anything about it since you are only using it on a personal computer).
And back to you question noddie: I belive you should go to some kind of "sell site" (whatever they are called) and send in some kind of "ad" to ask if anybody wants to sell you a copy.

If that is true i'll sell you my copy, I recieved 2 copies and still have one in its original packaging.
Perhaps I am mistaken but I just read in the Coldstone License.txt:
You must purchase a separate copy of the software for each Macintosh it is used on.
I am sure that many break that rule. That doesn't make it alright to do so.
Furthermore, Nod would have to identify himself as the original purchaser to get the code to work on his computer. I'm sure there is something illegal about that. Since the code only functions for 30 days without having to re-contact Ambrosia concerning an installation on a different computer, and he is asking for someone who no longer wants Coldstone, the 30 day limit would, in most likelyhood, be exceeded.
Is the disenchanted seller going to offer a money-back guarantee If Nod cannot get this functional on his computer?
This is all assuming that everyone is being honest and the seller would indeed remove the software from the original computer. I tend to be skeptical about that.

crizak, please email me about selling a copy.
You should probably check the license or e-mail someone at ambrosia to find out if its legal.
Seeing as barring any sudden unnecessary change of heart takes place, nod will have his registration code...and as such to diffuse any impending conflict i offer this information.
All ambrosia registration codes are based on the month and year of purchase. Accordingly you may need to set the clock back on your machine inorder to enter the purchased code on your computer.
accordingly if crizak cannot remember the date of purchase, a valid date is postmarked on the package.

Incorrect. If you enter the out of date registration code in the Registration app, it tells you that it is out of date, and offers to contact the server to renew the license code. I've done this myself a few times with Coldstone - I install it, then remove it, and between this removal and the next installation, I reformatted my hard drive, so all of my license files were lost. All I did was enter the old information in the application, hit the 'renew code' button and voilá. I've done it a couple of times in the past few years.

First, the two-computer issue: as a consumer you have the right to install any software you purchase on any two computers/digital storage devices provided that one is used as a backup, not for everyday use.
As for crizak selling his code and game, that should be legal as well because he is not mass reselling it and he is not reselling it for profit. Is every single game sold on ebay (I'm sure there are at least a hundred a day) illegally sold? When you sell someone an old chair is that illegal? The only issue, as you brought up, is the integrity of the seller. If the seller really removed the game from his/her machine then it would be legal, otherwise, it wouldn't be. Anyway my two... well, let's say 50 cents on the matter. It seems to me though, that though the mods on this board can lock and delete this topic, they can't stop crizak from selling the game...

Selling a chair isn't the same as selling a license to a piece of software. Sure there are many chairs like that one, but each was crafted like the first, not crafted once then reproduced. As far as selling a license to a game, I dunno, never tried From the license.txt: " Unless explicitly stated in writing, Ambrosia Software, Inc. does not grant permission to distribute the software for profit in any form, including but not limited to, electronic information service distribution, bulletin board distribution, and magnetic or optical medium distribution." So, no, you can't sell it without ASW's permission.

Nod, I think that the cleanest and easiest way to get coldstone is to wait until it is re-released. Not only will this give you time to develop your game idea(s), it will also save a lot of time for you and those involved in this topic and save legal hassles between the seller, you, and Ambrosia Software when an update actually comes out.

Would anyone have an estimated date of re-release per chance?
I'm pretty sure, dampeoples, that when you sell a piece of software on the original CD, not a copy, you are not being a distributor of it. It's not legal to make copies of Coldstone and then sell the copies; that's a distributor, which is actually what Ambrosia is and does.
As for the two computers thing, yep, I use one computer as a backup and a way to test some graphics. My game is actually being built with Coldstone on one computer with a backup of the game on an external hard drive.
Where I work, licenses are tightly disciplined. They are experts, and do say that since I can only be at one place at a time, it's borderline, but okay to have the same software applications on two computers that only I use. I have a LOT of software applications for my work. But, and it's happened, if I want a colleague to have a particular software application that I have, then the department has to buy another copy.
This is, of course, between crizak and nod, however.
I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and it's good to post these disagreements in such a courteous way. Thanks everyone!!!

Sure, that'd be like selling a copy of Warcraft on cd, along with the code. You need the CD to play. Coldstone comes on a CD, but is pretty worthless without the reg. code that's issued to an individual. Gray areas
i know you quoted me, but did you read what i said? have you tried it before?
i have. if this is incorrect please inform the "obscure figures" who use this method regularly to enter old codes. its very common knowledge, considering they've been using from everything from apeiron to snapz pro.
doing such allows you to circumvent the registration app, the code itself does not expire, there is nothing wrong with the code, nor does it have anyway of knowing what machine you are using. The code however is derived from the name and time of issue...
