What are Portraits?

What is the Coldstone feature that is called "Portraits" for? It is not used in PoG or Trinity and I haven't figured out how to use this feature by poking around in Coldstone, so what are portraits for?

Portraits are a picture that you can use for a number of tasks. It was designed to be used as a Picture of the Player. To allow you to select a portrait you must first have a picture to use in the Portraits folder in your Player folder. You can change the portrait by using the Player portrait action in the event screen.

Player portraits are used in PoG/Trinity to change the appearance of the hero from beginner to Page, to Squire, to Knight. Also to give different appearance to Rangers, Conjurers, and Swordsmen.

Not so - you're thinking of the Player Map Icon/Display, not the Player Portrait.

GrahamVH's explanation is essentially correct. Note that the Portrait is an interface item, so you'll have to place it in one of your interfaces if it is to ever be seen by the user. The Portrait can be included in the Main Interface, Map Interface, and Statistics interface layouts.
