Can you edit the combat system in the game to be something alot more simple or advanced? And could you program NPCs to follow you and fight enemies? Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.

To follow you, yes.
To fight for you? No, unless you completely scripted the combat instead of allowing combat to happen "naturally."
But as things stand you can only have an NPC be neutral or hostile. If it is hostile then it attacks the player; not other NPCs. If it is neutral then it won't attack at all; ever.
You can make a hostile NPC cast aggressive spells at its allies, but this will make it attack every NPC in sight instead of selecting a target. You also need to be aware that damaging "ally" spells affect the NPC casting the spell as well, and that if it commits suicide through one of its own spells it will cause your game to crash. The NPC is also technically hostile to the player and thus any area-affect spells that the player casts will affect the NPC, and the player can also target and attack the NPC.

Hi Anduril, welcome to the boards. You can have NPCs follow you but they will not attack other NPCs. They will fight you or no one, your choise. ~RD
Edit: Stark snuck in again!

The (url="http://"http://www.evula.org/rduck/")Kingdom of Garendall(/url) sectional map is easily printed from gif format pages. Find those areas you missed the first time around. You'll want to explore those hidden areas now made accessible with Spells Expander.

the only way i can see having a party and it attacking the enemy is if you used ellrx turn based party system in which youd have to control one by one in turn based. that way i guess you could have npc's but youd have to use them and the game would have to be turen based'ish.

Ok. And thanks. But how advanced can you make the combat system? I was thinking of something where you attack a unit and then a combat window pops up so that any time during basic combat you can issue special moves like kick, stab, and parry.
