First, the link: (url="http://"http://kamashin2.free.fr/darkrising.sit")http://kamashin2.fre.../darkrising.sit(/url)
I m currently uploading another beta of my DarkRising... for those who already tested an earlier beta, here is what's new: - the battle-engine (very early version, still has some pbms but give a good impression of what it will be) - the castle (almost 1/2 completed) a few words before testing: - I compiled for OS 9 and X and tested the OS 9 app (not hte X but it should work the same) - when launching the game it will say that the app was compiled with an unregistered copy of Coldstone, which is false but it's a known bug... so just hit 'no' - there is only one place where you can test the battle-engine: you begin in a small village; go down to go on the worldmap... once on the worldmap, there is a forest with a temple iin the middle on your right (have to south east a bit to see it)... enter the forest and move around a bit to meet some monsters... You'll see that there are still some pbms with the battle-engine... it's a very early version... - on the worlmap when you just left the beginning village, down of it is a small halo... it's a teleport I use to test maps that can't be linked yet with the worldmap... it's currently leading to my castle (which is far from being completed but you can have a look at it)... once in the castle, there is no teleporter yet to go back to the worldmap so here is what to do: hit the "<" key, this should bring a dialog waiting for you to write something... right "worldmap" and hit enter... you re teleported to the worldmap... (I hope the "<" will work... not sure 'cause i use a french keyboard azerty, not qwerty... i hope the app is "intelligent" enough... - the loading time of the worldmap is a bit long so don t panic, it s not your computer who crashed - last thing... it's a very very early zeta (not even beta ) so there is yet almost no quest, NPCs... just a few maps, sounds and musics... - ah another thing... when going on the worldmap, a small version of the map appears, showing you the places you can visit... (like the cave, village, forest-temple, desert... so you know where you can go and cannot...) tell me what you think of it... and one last (promise it s the last...): while posting this message the game is not yet uploaded... I ll begin the upload in a few seconds... if you try to download it too soon, it won t work... well the file is about 70 Mo... if less (like 50) it means that th upload is not yet finished...

im downloading it right now, have to go to bed before i play it, too tired, and way you can cut down the zetas in size would be cool, just seems really big.
------------------ Morvera ner Morden
hmmm... I ll think about it but i doubt I can reduce the size of the game... well... there won t be too many of them... I have to keep a bit of surprises in the game...
Weren't you having problems building a game a while back? How did you resolve them?
------------------ (url="http://"http://www.thoughtslop.org")thought|slop(/url)
played it, pretty cool. when you go to quit the game a word is mispelled and when you pull, i think its your inventory, the background color is missing. other than that, seemed to work good for being so early. i went out of town and found three spiders to smack around. not bad how the turn based works. at 1st i didnt like the fact you could run around etc when in fight, now i think i do, i think with two parties fighting will actually look pretty cool with everyone milling around getting stuck in. i guess you could offset the "always strike 1st" thing with harder enemies or more of them. i was wondering this too, is it possible for you to use a attack that hurts more than onoe enemy, like a giant fireball, or ice storm? and on the flip side is it possible for the enemy to attack you with a mass attack spell or attack and actually damage several or all party members....... that would add a whole nuther level to the game i think. not sure if its possible though.....
well... for damaging several ennemies with a giant fireball it s doable without pbms... when creating a spell in Coldstone, there are a few choices for your spell: -yourself -single ennemy -whole ennemies I think this answers the question though I havn t tested it yet (I don t have any spell right now... will work on it soon) however, I dont think it s doable for weapons such as sword or crossbow... these are single oriented weapon... I havn t seen Ellrx's tutorial about party members yet (though I have it already on my HD) so I m not sure how they work... don t know how I will manage the party members, if party members there are... the missing graphics for the inventory is only temporary... as you may have noticed, i m making all the graphics, even for the interface elements... so the inventory/stats screen will change completely.... as for the misspelled word on the quitting screen, I ll correct it (I m french so mistakes in my dialogs and various texts will be numerous... )
ah gotcha, you know what im wondering, is if you could disguise a spell as a weapon and maybe have weapons of mass destruction! especially in a scifi type game with flamethrowers grenades etc. thats something im still thinking about all though i dont know if it would work, is a scifi type game ala ogrebattle'ish. my idea for a future game was too make a bigger than onscreen battlefield with slightly smaller characters and you could have a type of fallout game where you could run around and shoot it up and even make little obstacles all over that you cant shoot over.......... eh its a future idea still far off. i have to say the coldstone engine is a classic example of never judging a book by its cover. so many possibilities......... @*&%^!!!!!!!!!
well well well... I think it s possible... only one thing might be a bit challenging... your pseudo-weapon is in fact a spell... so when using it, the animation used by Coldstone will be the one where your character casts a spell... so how do you "draw" your flamethrower... don t know...
Nice game. You should add some healing stuff to it.

Great game, but is there a way to heal yourself? I also can't seem to talk to the armor shop guy.

Have you tried saving your files in Graphic Convertor? uncheck all thumbnail options/preview options
and when you enter the save dialog check the 'save without resource fork(web ready)' tis will cut down the size of the files i've cut my project folder's size to 1/8th the original size.

woah... you 1/8 ellrx?? I will definitely try your trick... I do use Graphic Converter for it is the best and I knew I could do this but simply didn't think of it... however, 1 or 2 questions about that: - by doing this, are you sure the game and graphics will still work with a PC version? (PCs are very sensible and annoying things sometimes... crashing for nothing... HAIL APPLE ) - are you sure that it doesn't reduce only your not-yet-compiled game? what I mean is that Coldstone takes all the graphics and make a single data file with them when compiling... doesn't it solve this? what I mean is that my compiled game is 70 Mo, but my not-compiled folder is about 145 Mo...
GrahamVH... I havn't made any healing stuff yet there is no need for it since there is simply no story or quest yet in the game... the battle part in the forest was just an example to test the turn-base mode... the final game however will definitely have healing stuff, don t worry and concerning the armor guy, it's ok I put him here but didn't create the graphics for the armor shop yet, so that's why you can't talk to him

Hail Apple...indeed!! funny you should ask, PCs don't have a resource fork, so its perfectly fine.
CGE, i'm assuming that you clicked the 'compress picture data' checkbox, yes this does this...somewhat but its not perfect, my game went from about 15mb to 2mb. before it only just like yours cut to about 7.3mb(or is that MegaOctet... gwah gwah gwah gwah gwah)
OKAYYYYY... I'll definitely do that then
There is a fix for the unregestered version error. see link: (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum48/HTML/001783.html")http://www.ambrosias...TML/001783.html(/url)
