Is there a way to have a scrolling dialog in CGE? Something like a status report, updating the events that occur as they happen, but do not require the confirmation click? I know this needs to be in a dialog box, but was wondering if I could incorporate it into the gui in such a manner that it doesn't require any player input. For an example, something like a battle dialog... Maybe you could try to set one of the player stats that show in the gui to text, but that's the last straw as far as I'm concerned

So you want a A transcript
The dialog boxes in CGE use a DRAW command for the text, meaning that it is slapped directly to the screen this means that it is not put within a real text area, similar to the one i'm using to type my response.
Instead the zone you defined is used as coordinates and limitations for the dialog. --------- Now you'll want a St.ring/TextBased variable to fool with...and you also don't want it to affect anything during the game... use the Karma variable??.... wrong (the Karma variable only excepts numerical/integer values) so that leaves you with only one variable... PLAYER NAME you might think but i don't want to change the player's name, you should stop reading then....otherwise;
1. Create a global/variable 'HoldName' and set its value equal to PlayerName, this will hold the player's name temporarily for safe keeping.
2. create an event call it 'nameRevert' put a conditional that states; if EncounterInProgress = 0 then do action of type AttributeWizard (which sets the 'PlayerName' equal to 'HoldName') else do nothing.
----- Due to the free roaming fight at the drop of a hat, right in your lap structure of the battle engine,there is no bounding situation that determines where a conflict is and when its over....blah blah blah...that said you'll need to set up a 3 frame animation made (preferably small) white picts.
The first frame is a marker
The second has a call event parameter 'nameRevert' ***
The third loop to last marker
Make sure that the animation type is standard
Delay of 0
this animation file either placed as a stamp will monitor/make sure that the PlayerName will switch back after the fight has ended(run away, victory, or death). All you need do is make sure it is present on every map, this can be done manually or
you can also use a stampControl, place it at coordinates (1,1) no one will ever see it, it won't interfere with anything, it will chug along indefinitely.
***If you have a need to expand this you should probably create the event and call it 'Rules' and just use a call event action to call 'RevertName' and all your other subsets and regulations...anything that should be watched regularly

You are perhaps innately more arrogant than i seem, that you would assume that i would have no issue with you attempting to address me by anything other than what you see. Thank you very much, Andiyar. I would like to say a little something here...
If you folks will take notice, one of Andiyar's posts is directly next to (below) the post which ellrx was inadvertantly slapped for. There used to be a slight hole in the UBB code which allowed you to change the reply number in the URL for karma modifications and, as such, raise and/or lower a moderator's karma. In e-mail only of course, it was rather amusing when we first found this out.
I attempted to do as such with Andiyar, only the hole has since been filled in. This is why I pointed out in the message area that it was for Andiyar and I included my e-mail, which I've never done in any other karma modification I've only ever done once before. Had ellrx just e-mailed me I would've been more than happy to explain this and restore his karma.
But no.
He instead takes the oddball, and EXTREMELY looked down upon, option of going back to the forums with his complaints instead of e-mailing the moderator in question. I didn't even know what had happened until this afternoon at which point I was informed via that topic on the ASW Banter forum. I shall now include the text of two e-mails I sent ellrx earlier today, and have still not heard a reply on:
"Bloody hell, there's a REASON I included my e-mail. I was trying to give Andiyar a karmaslap but it appears that the hole which allowed that has since been plugged.
If you want your karma point back then just tell me, but otherwise you should've bloody well E-MAILED me about it and kept it off the forums. I don't vist the Coldstone forums and didn't find out about your post until a few minutes ago...then I had to find the blasted post....oi.

Needless to say, I was slightly frustrated that I'd just found out about it and wasn't my cool, composed self. Then I decided to go back and read the rest of his initial posting and the rest of the topic...uh-oh. I then sent this e-mail:
After seeing your reaction to how somebody suggested that you e-mail me instead of pulling that crap I'll be damned if I'm going to give you that point back. Especially after how you reacted to dampeoples and Madman.
This was a matter which should've been handled via e-mail and it wouldn't have taken but a second of time. Instead ellrx decided to turn a harmless and easily reversible prank amongst moderators into a bitchfest against somebody who, rather obviously, visits this forum with the frequency of glacial incursions into Brazil.
ellrx ignored the sage advice of dampeoples in that he e-mail me, which is why I put my e-mail in the message of course. He kept bitching and moaning instead of actually doing something about it. This was never brought to my attention. If it had been it would've been quickly corrected without question.
Finally: Given his reaction to the whole thing, he deserves to have the karma point removed for general stupidity and taking matters as such to the forums when a viable and preferred option is so readily available.
