Coldstone will not build a working game!!

yes,

It frustrates me the most to get flamed by the people that ultimately benefit from the dialog.

My experience with David was great his attitude was very positive. My email was in no way intended to impugn his efforts. Really he gave me the impression he was doing everything possible. I get the feeling his hands are tide, as he does not work for Beenox.

So David, accept my apology for any heartburn that I've caused you and I thank you for your efforts.

My game is still on hold.

Hi All,

I agree 100% with David so I won't simply type back his reply. I can, however, provide deeper explanations...

- This is definitely a weird bug. It may be caused by RB or maybe it's something within the code of Coldstone that is messing up RB. To put it simple, it reaches the end of a function but doesn't seem to return to the previous function on the stack. Actually, it goes into an infinite loop but since it's in a thread executing in the background, it doesn't freeze the app. Again, there's nothing to conclude from this, just that I'm investigating the problem.
- I would be suprised if it would be directly related to file size (single or multiple). Number of files? Perhaps. However, as David mentioned, PoG was compiled with Coldstone and has probably more files than any of your game.

So, you can't just state that Coldstone won't build any working game. That is simply not true. I haven't isolated the problem yet but it's not a general issue for sure. As soon as I can find what cause this, I should, at least, be able to post a workaround.

Sorry for any inconvenience and have a nice day!

Thank you Dee for the reply.

Although my statement "Coldstone will not build a working game for the Mac or the PC" sounds general, it is non the less true in my case. I now regret the wording of this as it seems to have provoked some anger.

After supplying my source files and halting production for 2 weeks, I was given the response of " I'm really sorry it doesn't work. We don't have a solution for you and do not know when we will. Just keep waiting." As you might well imagine, this was and is a frustrating reply. It is true, Coldstone will not build a working game for the Mac or the PC for me. Apparently this is true for others as well.

It may have built POG, but it is not building my game.

I get no sound when I publish.
I get a windows build that will not execute at all.
I get a unqualified regestration prompt

I personally thank you for taking the time to look into a solution for this issue and offer my services and support in any way that might expedite a quick resolution.

Cheers,
CGoran

Ok Dee, it sounds from what I am hearing that a good workaround would be to try and minimize the number of animations or pictures used. Also, if you are having persistant problems then deleting your preferences for the problematic program can often help.

But sadly with the project I am looking at, between classes, separate animations for different weapons, seperate animations for different attacks, seperate animations for male/female appearances, and doubling the above for a certain extra conditional I have planned, I am currently looking at over 150 animations for characters alone. These character animations will also cover a broad range of the animations needed for NPCs, but it's still a lot in itself, and that is after I decided to give up a lot of extra differences such as age, color sets, and a black mask around certain sprites to simulate lighting limitations. Each of which would have doubled or trippled the above number.

The reason behind such a large number of animations is workarounds for other missing features, which I'm fine with. But it is really saddening to know that after all of the workarounds, there is a bug that kills the project in the end.

But still, it's great to see Dee come out and explain the situation.

Yes, this is all side effects of the same bug: the compilation comes to an unexpected halt which prevents the copy of any additional media (sounds, movies, music), prevents the registration process to complete, and finally, prevents the copy of a file needed under Windows.

So Dee, is there a 1.0.2 update coming? Or are all other bugfixes on hold until this one is figured out?

I don't know what I'm talking about.
Oh no, here comes another learning experience.

The best thing for everyone to do would be to buy a copy, and start using it. When a problem is encounterd send the problem to the associated people. Only through support, and trial/error will this problem be fixed.

By the way,
I am not trying to rant or anything, I just get annoyed when I here people say, "well I guess I will not be getting it because....". I do not own ColdStone, and untill recently, I did not want to get it, but thanks to this forum it has sparked me to get it. I will hopefully, be building something I can be proud of.
