I just want to build my game!

I'm in the middle of game development and I've discovered to my dismay that it seems that I cannot build a working version of my game with the current Coldstone release.

1. I cannot build a working windows version. It crashes with a plethora of error messages.
2. I cannot build a Mac version that doesn't give me a bogus "you have not registered.." message.

I have tried tech support. They were very nice, but offered no solutions what so ever.

Please!! Moderator help me. Help us.

Do you have the following:
the ColdStone CD
stuffed archive of the update
your serial number written down

if so try the following delete all versions of the software and locate your preference file from within the preferences folder
delete it all do a fresh install from the CD, open the CGE app from the CD before you do anything else input your serial number exactly as seen case/spacing etc triple check.
now quit and unstuff the archived update follow the installation instructions precisely, restart your computer if your paranoid and hold down the option and command key during startup until you see a dialog box that asks do you want to rebuild the desktop file, click yes (this will not harm your computer and is apart of the monthly mainenence you should perform on your macintosh)
let it finish, restart your mac again if your extremly paranoid and now open ColdStone if this doesn't work i'll advise you to read the materials that came with coldstone such as the manual and read carefully the specified minmum requirements also asess the Cosmic Memory and Medieval source for hints of the errors you are comitting, yes the errors are user related.
We the Beta Testers have beaten CGE to a bloody pulp numerous times and still managed to compile functional standalone Games.

Thank you for the advice. I'm running Jaguar. I have the CD. I meet the minimum system requirements. I've read the manual. I've looked at the games.

It should not be this difficult to build a working game as advertised. It is the windows build that disturbs me the most. Tech support has no Ideas about how to correct it.

All of my files are named correctly as specified in the manual. All of the right type and dpi.

I don't see the user error. I see user patience.

Coldstone seems like it could be great. I would feel allot better if I could get it to work, or even if tech support had an idea about what it could be.

Cheers,

Are you using version 1.0.0 of Coldstone (that came on the CD) or version 1.0.1 (the downloadable update)? If you are using 1.0.0, try updating CS and then building again, it seems to have fixed the major windows build bugs.

For help on the other issue, see the other thread.

Its truly in the eye of the beholder, if you thought ColdStone 'has bugs' now.

Well,

I've re-installed and deleted preferences again, and now not only do I not get sound, the "built" game does not open at all. It seems like the problems have progressively gotten worse with each failed attempt at correction.

As a last resort, I put up a site for my game so that it might illicit some real reply and solution from Ambrosia.

Oh, well. It is Halloween after all.

Pink Bunny is having a similar problem. Make sure that when your data files are in the same folder as the game. You should have: The App., a data folder (Movies, Music, Sounds, and at least one data file named Data001.dat) , and plugins folder. Also, check to make sure that your compiled game folder is bigger than your uncompiled game folder. Hope this helps.

I have only one file in my data folder that seems to remain unchanged this is the Data001.dat file. It is around 900mb.

Is this bad?

------------------

There is no music/sound/movies folders? That is odd. As for that file being 900 meg.s. ... As long as your project folder is smaller than the finished game folder, then you are ok. Also check the memory requirements of your game. This was an issue PB had (Still has). Finally, (if you have DSL or cable) find a time when you have nothing to do on your computer and email the whole game to someone (uncompiled, stuffed). I would suggest Stark, but he has dialup. I don't know who is best but, it is good when a lot of people take a look.

CI-Ia0s,

Thanks. When I select the build release option. I get a dialog screen asking me where to save my build. All that is created in the folder that I choose is the "MyGame" executable.

I have a music folder in the main working game directory, but not in the data directory.

I would love to send it to someone.
