I think a mailing list would be nice, but I'll try to be on channel #coldstone more often, too.
And I'm about to check the Yahoo boards, but I have to create a Yahoo account first

OK folks, I'm convinced there are enough people -- but do you think a mailing list is better than the web board, or do they server two different purposes?
What do you think said mailing list should be named if it did exist?

I don't know that the two necessarily must serve different purposes, but they definitely could serve different people. I am not an active member of the boards, but I would hope to participate a good deal on a mailing list. That just has to do with my dial-up connection, my inability to stay online for the right duration of time, and the frustration of waiting for pages to load as I search for a topic that offered some info I need (yes, I've tried the search function). But I see a different way for people to read the same kind of info. In fact, the web-board scripts you use probably aren't THAT customizeable, but if you could make it possible for members to subscribe to these boards (and in digest-mode, please : ) ) to receive messages by email and post through email as well, why, that would be all I'm asking for in a mailing list. So, yeah, I view both as pretty much two mediums for the same stuff.
But if a difference must be established, I would suggest that the list be made for those who are actually using Coldstone to get something done. I hesitate to suggest registered users only, but I imagine registered users will be about the only ones interested in subscribing to a list that's more a gathering of developers than general questions about the product.
As for the name? Coldstone-Dev or something of the like would be fine. Makes no difference to me.
Oh, and someone asked me my problems with Yahoo. Yahoo (formerly egroups) has some nice features. But the ads are getting progressively worse in kb and in placement. I've had problems with managing my lists both as a subscriber (in digest mode as well as in individual email mode), and as a list-owner. There are weird down-times throughout the week so about every other time I've wanted to make some changes to my lists, I've gotten error messages. But the main reason is probably autonomy, which is more a personal preference than anything. I've had an anouncement list for years to promote my own writing. It was on listbot which was acquired by Microsoft, and I eventually moved it to egroups where it was acquired by Yahoo. I finally moved to manage the list offline at the end of last year.

First thank you Andrew. I agree they serve different needs but I feel the list should be limited to developement issues instead of general discussion. The mailing lists for the PoG betas where a good resource due to the guildlines set up at the start.
the list should be avail to registered users as developement resource. unregistered users can post on the board or register Coldstone.
as for the problems with Yahoo groups in a very short time it has proven to be cumbursome, quirky, and hard to use.
Coldstone-dev is a good name
again thank you Andrew

OK then. coldstone-dev it is. Would anyone be willing to admin this mailing list? Essentially, all they would need to do is handle any messages that are bounced, keep the list on-topic,and if worst comes to worst, bounce people off the list who are causing trouble.
The mailman web interface is super-easy to use, especially considering I will set the mailing list up for you. The admin will be mailed whenever there is something that needs attending to.
Certainly I could do it -- but it seems to me that someone from the community might work out better.

I would be willing to admin the list. will it be open or only registered Coldstone users?
email me with any questions straytoaster@mac.com
Thank you, Andrew! And thank you to Straytoaster and whoever else volunteers their time.
I would also be willing to volunteer some time to a mailing list. My activity is pretty much 8:30-5:00pm CST during weekdays(dsl at work, bwahaha), so if that can complement anyone else or be helpful, let me know. Email address is current in the email link above.

I could very happily give some time to a mailing list. I'm in England so my 'active' times are around 3 am-1pm EST. Since I'm still very low on the learning curve myself this may or may not be of any use.

Hate to keep harping, but what ever happened to this? Is there, or is there not a mailing list? Thanks for any new info...
I'll help mod if you like, don't see why my good deeds can stop at the webboards.

Why not use the Yahoo Groups service? It seemsm that there is a Coldstone group already set up there.

my little brother was to admin this list but he seems to lost interest. Largely due to the fact I wont let him on the computer. well that and school but Im still subscribed and could handle any problems that come up.
So, is ^this^ the official mailing list now?
