I did everything on Celchu's bare minimum checklist and then pushed the launch arrow at the end of the menu bar. A progress bar loaded my stuff and then the screen went dark. After that it was just the gray screen that appears before the computer has loaded. Nothing happened. The only way I got out of this was by putting my monitor to sleep. What happened and why didn't it work?

No idea here without some more information:
What OS are you running? What are the video settings (size, color) of your monitor? What are the video settings (ditto) in the Game Options? Is your game set to run full-screen? Do you have screen fading enabled in the Game Options?
That should be enough for a start.

Do you have a pic for your main screen that you originally send the user to and was it named the same as the main location? Did you try to force quit? (in emergencies only opt-command-esc)

I was running OS 9.2 at the time 1024x768, millions of colors I don't know why the game colors and size would have been set differently It was set to run full screen No screen fading enabled

Is your start-up picture set to 8 bit (256 colors)? If so, that may be your problem (it always messes up). If it is set to 8 bit color, change it to 16 bit.

You may want to make shure that your moniter can handle those video settings. And make shure your video card can too. Try lower settings. I think It sounds like a video problem more than anything. Hope I helped!
