I want to know if this has happened to anyone else. When I go to the main menu (or when nothing is open) all of the menu bar options turn gray as if I can't choose them, but when I click on one of them they become normal again. Also, throughout part of yesterday and until just a few minutes ago all of the subwindows were normal windows, even the info window, so I had to keep clicking back and forth to choose pictures in the map editor and so on. A couple minutes ago everything in the map editor seemed to freeze for ten seconds when I tried to select a new window. I closed the program and then opened it again and the subwindows were back, but the delayed reaction thing was still going on. The gray menu bar has occurred since I got the program when it first came out, but the no subwindows and delayed reaction just started yesterday. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have experienced this. Rest assured, if Dee refrains from fixing this issue in the next beta, he will be suitably punished.

I've never heard of this one. I would assume you use OS 9, because under OS X the supposed floating windows are normally real windows. Perhaps another bad boy (ie, Stark) can help you.

Yeah, I've had that problem ever since I got the Coldstone CD. I'm so used to it now that I never gave it another thought until you mentioned it. As for your other problem, I know, from years of experience doing graphics, that if you don't restart every now and then strange things can happen. Especially if your on an older computer without much RAM. I don't think the second part of your problem is a CS problem. But, I've been known to be wrong a time or two. CS is fun but can be very TRYING at times. I just spent two days trying to make a character transparent, but to no avail :frown:

I'll second Toast's educated guess here. I've taken to allocating CGE between 150-200 MB of memory when I work with it, and after using the map editor for quite a while with loading and unloading several different maps I find CGE slows down considerably. A restart of CGE usually helps free things up, though once in a while a full reboot of the system is better. But I look at this as a good thing: while the computer is rebooting is gives me time to go downstairs, go to the bathroom, grab a snack and another beer. Heh.
So Mr. Bobster47, next time things slow down for you give your machine a reboot for testing purposes, and let us know if things are back to normal when it returns. If things are still slow after a reboot then there may be a problem that needs some attention.

Well, I tried out the map editor again earlier today and became quite frustrated. The subwindows are gone again and there is a delay whenever I try to do something. Also, I just noticed that the new files I put into the pictures folder yesterday still don't show up on the pallette. I have an idea of how to fix it though. What I'll do is take a crowbar and rip out my computer's hard drive, smashing it to thousands of pieces with a sledge hammer. That should fix the problem.
I guarantee you, that if you rip up your current machine, it will give you no more trouble. But then again, why not buy a cheap $7 machine at a yardsale and maul it, allowing you to work out your anger, and keep your work.
Another idea: what if I deleted Coldstone completely and then reinstalled it from my CD? Does anyone know if that might solve these problems I've been having?

Hey Bobster, When's the last time you rebuilt your desktop? You know Option+Command keys when you start up. If you're on the desktop with nothing running do a force quit ( option+ command) and continue to hold option+command and you can rebuild your desktop without rebooting. Making new folders and moving them around calls for rebuilding the desktop more often. What that does is, re-establish the hierarchy of your folders and files.
Don't worry about the gray menu thing. Although annoying, it won't kill anything. But I have no idea about your frozen map thing. Can you recreate it?

Mr. Bobster47,
What format are your pictures in? If they are not in a supported format they will not show up in the palette. Also, did you place the pictures directly into the correct folder(I can't remember which one off the top of my head, and I'm not at home to check on it), or did you place a folder containing your pictures into the Coldstone folder? From experience you can only place pictures; if you drop a folder containing pictures in then they won't be recognized(which is annoying since if you have a lot of pictures the directory will get messy really quickly).

You might want to do that, but not immediately. First of all, rebuilding the desktop and checking where you put the graphics is a good thing to do first. If you do that and it doesn't work, though, I would recommend trashing the Coldstone prefs. If that fails to fix the problem, try making a new extension set for Coldstone. (Don't try this until you try everything else you can think of, except trashing and reinstalling Coldstone completely; extra extension sets are a pain.) Your second-to-last choice is to reinstall CGE completely; and the last resort is to sit tight and wait for the update. Don't worry, I'm preparing the rotten eggs and clublike foods, should we have need of them.
You're right... a situation such as this calls for stale bagguetes!
