Problems All Over The Place!

I am trying to design a game using the medieval template thingy, and when I try to run the game, I get the same "Can't Find Dialog Picture" error. I looked in the root game folder, only to find that all the things the person that responded to my last request were there. I can't open my map when i am trying to edit my game or map. It gives me an error that goes something like this: "Can't load character <boogley>" and/or "Unable to load <forest001_dklfhjkl>" etc. (BTW, the "dklfhjkl" was made up, it says it can't load all the foest base tiles) I would really appreciate some assitance.

Ahhh... had this problem before. I was designing a game with lots of graphics and all of a sudden form nowhere the same message displayed.

I found out why.....Application Memory. If coldesotne runs out of application memory it will give you this dialog. (it should really read no more room to load the graphics/sounds ect)

Try running your program in OSX to see if you get the same error message. If it works in X and NOT in 9 then do the following:

If you are running in system 9, increase your coldsotnes memory requirements with the "get info" command. The more graphics you add-the more memory you will have to increase. If you run it in OSX--it will always work becasue application memory is handled by the System itself.

Worked for me... hope this helps!

Im assuming you are trying to run the game from inside the CGE. in that case Memory is likely the cause.

if you are getting this error from a compiled game. then make sure you didnt mess with Folder Hierarchy.

As much as you can spare. 🙂 Probably about 128MB should do nicely, especially if you're running with lots of graphics/stamps in the one location. Give that a go, if it still happens, bump it up a bit more. 🙂

In OS9, if you open the 'About this computer' from Finder you can watch how much memory you eat up and add more if needed I've taken to giving the CGE 200-300mb (if i can spare it) when Im drawing maps or loading graphics and running my game under Coldstone but most game do just fine with <100mb if run independantly.
