So I "finished" my game... and built a release of it using the "compress images" option... now when I go back to my orig. game folder almost all of the images are gone... Location images, characters, almost everything... is this a bug? Or is there just a simple explanation (fingers crossed)... Eventually I wanted to do a v2 of my game... please let me know if anyone else has experienced this...

In that folder, is there a file called data.dat (or similar) as well as folders named movies and music, or does it contain all the events, music, pictures, players etc. folders? Because if it's the first, it's simply the way Coldstone works, i.e: dumping all the images and code into the data.dat file to prevent reverse engineering and alteration by the players. In this case, it's nothing to worry about, and if you look there could also be a folder in there which is named the same as your game, where all the original work is.
However if it's the second.... it can't have simply dissappeared. I don't believe that Coldstone uses Apple Events or other scripting to empty the trash, or even move things off your hard drive, so the files must be somewhere. Try a search with Sherlock on your disk/s for one of the file names. They should be somewhere.
And if all this doesn't work.... get back to me. I'm thinking about it.

the folder I built the release in has the .dat file... but the original folder is the one missing almost everything... i checked the trash and the Hard Drive... they're just "gone"...
:frown:
Well, this is extremely interesting. Are you absolutely sure that you didn't trash the files, by accident even? Another question.... are you using the Carbon editor for Coldstone? It has some major issues, but I haven't heard of this one yet.... and I can't comment on what could have happened with Apple Events, since I haven't really delved into Applescript for OSX yet.
Another thing that has occurred to me.... are you logged in as a user, admin or root? Do you mess around with Terminal and file permissions? Because it's possible (though not likely) that you've somehow rearranged the file permissions for all of your files so that they are no longer visible in your profile. Log in as the root user and check if they appear, and if they do, reset the permissions allowing anyone read/write access.
Of course, if this doesn't work..... I hope you were sensible and backed up your work during construction of your project. I'm afraid I can't think of anything else that could have happened (except the dubious possibility you left your profile active, and someone else accessed it and fiddled with your files.) I'm sorry I can't do anymore ProfessorX.... but look on the bright side, at least your game got finished. Just pray it doesn't have any bugs or issues.
Sorry I couldn't be of further assistance.

Mmmmh... are you sure of this? Coldstone doesn't do a single "delete" operation during all its data compression...only reading (not to mention that you are the first to report it).
However, I'm taking this problem very seriously and I'll do further testing with the new (all shiny) OSX version of Coldstone I have here. Before anyone asks "when is it coming out?", let me say that the update will probably go to the testers tomorrow and if everything goes well, should be available shortly after.

Dee thanks for checking it out... it's nice to see the "bigwigs" get involved with helping us "little people" Here's more info if it helps: I've notices that everything that was a .pct file is missing... location pics and background stuff (i used the tiles and stamps that came with the program) my Location picts were all .pct so they're gone and my characters which were already .png (the only way I could get them to look nice) Are still there... as are all of the animation files for the other characters (ie the ones in the medevil demo)... the only one I used in my game was the cave spider... again the game i built is great... my friends love it... but I wanted to go back and fix a few things and possibally do a winblows version... Again I really appreciate you looking into this... it's definatly not the end of the world to have to remake the location .pcts but it is an inconvience and I'd hate for this to happen to some who spent months building custom backgrounds.
PS I'll be making an "official" announcement re my game as soon as I get it's website looking decent

I believe one other person mentioned it -- either that or I'm having a deja vu moment.

/me raises hand.
Good to see that an OSX patch is coming soon, Dee! Will it have support for floating palettes and stamp outlines, or just bug fixes? Either way, I'm sure it'll be excellent!

This has happened to me too... the Mac OS X version seems to delete all the data files when I 'Build Release'; the Mac OS 9 version doesn't seem to do this.

It will have support for floating palettes, several improvement to the interface which makes it a lot nicer under X, some new minor features and bug fixes.

Excellent! Thanks a lot Dee, looks like I can finally kill Classic.... or at least for Coldstone.
