Great you folks managed to make a windows version. I tried to get a few friends to download and try out. But they didn't want to after I told them it's not online based. They like the idea of the plugins but not enough to play. I am not telling you to give up or that your game is bad. But maybe the next gen of coldstone should be online based. If that is possible. Theirs a game/chatroom that about 4 mb big called furcadia at furcadia.com I suggest you take a look at it and ask someone to enter a dream. A dream would be our version of a plugin but online. The player uploads the plugin and anyone who enters the dream downloads the plugin and enters the pocket world the plugin maker made. Furcadia lacks anything like a normal game like monsters to fight. With only free role playing and maybe using online dice. But most folks are dropping most offline games to play online games. Even furcadia haves 1000's of players and it's mainly at chatroom with town size plugins players can add.

Sorry for writing so much. Hope your game does well.

Cool. The first Windows release from ASW, correct?

Good luck with the release!

Well, unless I'm mistaken, this should mean the Coldstone editor/compiler should be ready soon, no?

I hope you're right, but don't count too much on that.

I have a question for you Dee, and I really didn't want to start another topic, and i figured you'd be watching this one, so....

The files created by the MacOS X version of Coldstone, will they be cross compatible with those created by the Classic MacOS version of Coldstone? Will I be able to simultaneously exchange files while developing a game with a person using OS 9 if I'm using OS X?

Oh, and of course, Congratulations to both the Beenox and Ambrosia teams. To Beenox for bringing us both an excellent game and of course, the ability to make our own, and to Ambrosia for finally taking the plunge and breaking the platform barrier. Kudos to you all, and I'll hope to see many more excellent offerings from you all in the times to come! 🙂

We have just witnessed the extinction of the mac-only developer.

That is actually the reverse of what is happening. Yes, most hard core gamers want to play online games -- but "most folks" actually have much different priorities. Hell, the most played games (online and offline) are card/board games, not Quake-alikes or RPGs.

Well, no. There's still me. I will continue to be mac-only until either I and/or macintoshes cease to exist.

I don't care if Ambrosia is no longer a Mac-only developer; just as long as they are always a Mac-first developer ;-).

Anyhow, it's just good practice to make your code as portable as possible; we'll still want to use Coldstone with our Mac OS XI machines, after all 🙂
