Hi I'm new and very x-cited about CS . Could you give me a rough est. about the mem. req's for this awesome engine..

Welcome!
Unfortunately, the Coldstone memory requirements are still very much to be determined. If you check the (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum18/HTML/000009.html")Coldstone progress log(/url), you will see that Dee Brown (the programmer) has made some substantial changes to the Coldstone engine since the last beta (b4) was released for testing. I'm guessing that as a result, the memory requirements have changed quite a bit as well. So at this point, Dee is the only person who can give you even a rough estimate. Sorry!
Stick around!

It's off topic, so no more on this subject within this thread.
To answer your question, Mouse was karma-banned because of a story he posted that a moderator found in very poor taste. Anyway, it's past news now.

okay. something a little more on topic then (I have no idea why I didn't post this before...).
I don't know much about the editor itself, but games made with ColdStone I do have some experience with. I found the memory requirements for PoG to be a little out of hand (I've been told that this is improved in newer betas of the editor). I mean, PoG does have nice graphics, but it runs at a fairly low resolution and it isn't that visually intensive. I was giving it a little too much RAM when I played, but I usually saw marked increases in performance when I upped the RAM to something like 150 megs (I have a lot of RAM to spare...). I believe Ambrosia is on target with their estimate of making games playable on a rev A imac, but I certainly wouldn't want to play a CS game on a system with under 128 megs of total memory. I do have an A-typical system though, so my results may also be slightly A-typical.
(edited for UBB errors)

jmitchell: that's where my post comes in. Judging from the last post to the progress log (and the delays in the beta ), Dee has seriously changed things. I'm guessing that optimization has made a big difference in the editor/game's speed and memory requirements. The earlier betas of both Coldstone and PoG have definitely been less than optimized, so making any judgements based on them is very premature. Let's wait and see, shall we?

Nothing says "kiss of death" more than high system requirements. This goes the same for battery drainage in the handheld market, which is why GameBoy is the only true survivor. You're never going to sell a game that requires 120 megs of memory.

True I have about 4 gameboys and I cherish all the long tedious moments they helped me out... True not even a Launching script (one that quits the finder) can save you, when its huge and not standalone, Is it standalaone??? the engine that is.
