Before Beenox went with ambrosia to do coldstone there were some public betas and at the page : < snip> you can download an old beta of it and try it out.

Please note that there will be many new features when the real thing comes out but until then you can have fun with this version.

ENJOY!!! 🆒 🆒 🙂 🙂 🙂

:frown: the beta doesn't work with my browser... :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

The Dursleys had not changed much in the ten years that had passed, the only thing that was different was the pictures on the wall. Before, they looked like a pink beach ball wearing different colored bobble hats.
1984 won't be like 1984

For what it's worth, Coldstone has changed tremendously since last June. You can play around with the old version, sure, but you'll be missing, among many other things:

-animation support
-several major revisions to the combat system
-separate movement/background tile grids
-custom map tile brushes
-OS X and Windows compilation
-masked, non-rectangular interface areas
-helmets 🙂
-alpha masking

(all of those from the progress log)
Plus tons of bug fixes, changes in the way things work, more intuitive editing, and much much more. Therefore, I would suggest that you wait for the "real" Coldstone, because using the old public beta will likely just be confusing and give a false idea of the capabilities and limitations possessed by Coldstone. 🙂

Also, I doubt that Coldstone will be able to import files created under the old beta version, so any work you do in it would have to be strictly for practice. 🙂

It might have been a bad idea to post this old beta the way some folks have been asking for certain features that don't appear to be in the pending final release, especially since combat in the old version of Coldstone was tur- um, I mean, uh, (points behind you) what the hell is that!? 😉 Seriously, I checked out the old beta for a few minutes and there's no comparison. I've never touched the new Coldstone but the screen shots of it alone show just how much better it is than the old one. In my mind this is the difference: the old Coldstone games would have looked like $10 shareware if you aren't capable of making decent looking graphics on your own (like me). The new Coldstone makes games that look like $50 commercial products (judging by the screen shots). I know there is a lot more that goes into a game besides graphics, but it's the first thing you notice about a game. I'm going to play around with the old beta just to get a feel for what making my own game will be like, but I'll gladly wait however long it takes to get the final product out because the difference between the two products is so night and day. Coldstone will be worth the wait, I gar-on-tee. 🙂

Money is not the root of all evil, Jar Jar Binks is.

Neither Ambrosia nor Beenox wish for the old beta's to be distributed anymore, do not post the link again or your Karma will be lowered. The same goes for every member, this has been your warning.
