when i first found out about Coldstone i was mad happy... then i read that the editor is only gonna come out for Mac... Y????? Why cant the editor come out for PC??? I currently use RPG MAKER 2K, but it is not all that good.... Coldstone shouldn't be released only for MAc.. its not fair to those of us who want to create awesome games but dont have a mac!!!
Because it was decided not to do so.
There are plenty of companies which only publish software for PC so why can't there be a company that only publishes software for the Macintosh platform? This is a fairly grievous double-standard and I don't think complaining about it will really make it go away.

Forge, my thoughts exactly. The two OSs are so different, perhaps it wouldn't be efficient to release to Windows platforms. Also, the fact that it is published by Ambrosia, which consists of a sole primary audience of Mac enthusiasts, since it publishes Mac games. All in all, you have no reason to whine, as Windows gets the brunt of the software in the first place. Why isn't RPGMaker for Mac?

I don't think that the possibility of a PC editor has been completely ruled out... it was my understanding that they have chosen not to release it because their "cross-platform" compiler can't produce a stable version for Windows. If that changes, I'm fairly certain that they might release a PC Coldstone editor. Just don't hold your breath.

the cross platform compiler is a part of the coldstone editor itself, for making windows and mac versions of the games produced. the coldstone editor would have to be rewritten to make it work with windows, and the odds are 99% in favor of that not happening.

I think Ambrosia publishing only for the Mac is cool. It gives me something to show off about and make my pee-cee friends jealous

PCs don't deserve such a great tool as Coldstone. If you want to use the editor, buy a mac.
now now, be nice... there's nothing wrong with windows/intell boxes. they just got out there first. it's only logical that they'll have the lion's share of the market. Ambrosia stuck it's roots down in the macintosh, and I doubt they'll be replanting any time soon. they're not software nazis though. if they can release a PC product, they probably will -- remember, ASW isn't a massive corperation with sub-contractors to build their cross-platform ports for them.

WHOA WHOA BACKUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought due to so many PC users having a large intrest in CS that they would make a Crossplatform box, In one of the PICS it even has it, They even said so?!?!?1?

The Coldstone editor is written heavily in RealBasic, which technically has cross-platform compilation built in to it. As I understand it, it's just turned out that RealBasic's Windows compilation is less functional than its Mac compilation. Dee and Beenox have very little "porting" to do of the editor; they just need a RealBasic compiler for Windows that doesn't suck.

Current plans on whether or not the Coldstone editor itself will be cross-platform are unknown. I believe this was a goal in the beginning, but I don't believe it is still happening. We'll have to be patient and see.
