Will it be possible to make boats in Coldstone? It seems a rather hard thing to do. I know It will be possible to simply make a boat as an exit to another map, but will it be possible to make a boat for the characters to sail around in?
Or, if that is not possible, perhaps exits with a choice of destinations? So that there could be an exit which looked like a boat, and you could choose what island you wished to sail to.
I suppose this wouldn't really be easy, at least not the first option, and I am just inquiring.

It's difficult to answer you, because only the programmers and beta testers know for sure at this point, and we're not allowed to tell you.
However, for some pre-beta information, and a lot of rampant speculation, look at (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum48/HTML/000167.html")this thread.(/url) Don't take their word as final, but it will tell you about as much information as you're likely to get until Coldstone is released to the public.

well someone earlier on was talking about changing character's appearance to that of a train to make it appear as if you were on a train or something. Does this help?

Isn't that the thread I linked to in my post above?
the answer is yes, through ingenuity.
and if npc's/pc's can still have their icons changed
if npc/pc's can have targets set
if you can figure out the rest gasp

hm, most intriguing. will the maps be scaleable? if i'm walking around in a cave and then come out into the real world, could my character be smaller? having your character become a ship that's the same size as the character is, like, so final fantasy 1 (like, really). even if the character/ship size isn't to a real-world scale, looking at some of the beta shots, it doesn't seem like you could see where you're going in a ship, especially if it moves with any speed. being able to zoom in and out as events when entering/exiting ships/trains/winnebagos/etc would be sweet.
if the beta is feature-complete, is there a working faq for any of this stuff? all i find are the beta-shots, the log, and the forums..

If by scaleable you mean FFVII style when your in buildings and when you are walking around the real world you are tiny. I am pretty sure that is possible, just make your map bigger and your character smaller. I haven't tried to do it though.

i'm thinking more of a zoom setting, actually. when it's just your character who' s walking around, you'd be zoomed in closer to the map so that you could see details and choose your steps. when you're sailing a ship, you see the map from further away, since you're moving on a larger scale and at a faster pace. would you have to create two maps with the exact same components, with one map at half scale (or whatever)? or could you set a zoom setting on one map to switch back and forth between the two views?
Well, I don't know how you would do that. I probably shouldn't say anything more though about coldstone's abilities. My final word is: I don't know if you can or can't.
fair enough.
Another thing that I've been wondering about Coldstone, is it possible to limit a player's movement at certain times yet not at other times. ie: make a player controled train stay on its tracks?
------------------ Dr. Tall says: Taller is Better
If necessary, you could always make a 'parallel' map, so that the tracks for the train would be isolated from the outside. When the player turned into the train, the maps switch, so suddenly you are on tracks and can move only on the tracks. If you make the map smaller, also, it appears that you are moving faster. You could also simply set this up for a development thing, and do it once, being filmed by Snapz, and simply put in the movie, and then it would just appear to have the train move. Of course, you could also split this movie in half, and at halfway give the player his sprite back and put in a section on the train interacting with characters, followed by giving the train thing again, then putting the player on the map as his normal self again. That would be like FFVIII.
Can you tell that I came up with the train theory? This would work with boats too.
Hope this helps,
