Lots of questions and/or tricks

Hi all! I've been thinking about starting a Ferazel world lately, and I think that a big key in making a good world is to use things in new and unexpected ways. If y'all don't mind, that's what I'd like this topic to be about.

At the moment, I mostly have questions rather than suggestions, because I can't launch Ferazel to test anything out because I left the CD at my parents' house, and probably won't get it back until mid-August. :frown: But I figure I should go ahead and post these here; if any of you have the spare time to check out a couple of them and report back to everyone else, more power to you! 🙂

Now, on to the first batch questions! I didn't see answers to any of these in the MRG or the Mascot ReadMe; if they've been answered on this forum previously, please point me in the right direction.

  • Level Info (19) (global air push) - Does this affect Ferazel if he's using a Carpet or a Hang Glider?

  • Wind tiles - Do these affect the motion of a Carpet?

  • Manditraki Warrior - Has anyone figured out how the rocks are produced?

  • Mist potion - What can and cannot the player do while mistified? Push buttons? Collect items? Complete the level?

  • Which of the kAbstractBossN abstract backgrounds actually work?

  • Cannons - If you can set the rotation speed precisely with Info(1), what is the difference between "spinning" and "spinning fast" in Info(0)?

  • Ground Fire - Does changing the flame color with Info(0) affect the amount of damage it does?

1. I dunno

2. No, only Ferazel and projectiles.

3. They are generated by the boss as are Xichra's cannons and weapons.

4. Smashed Ferazel may collect items and flip switches. He may not exit the level. I do not know if he can set perm flags.

5. Try them out yourself, it's not that hard.

6. Spinning means it turns and spinning fast means it turns faster. The time is still the same but the annimation runs faster. This just makes players think the time is different.

7. No

What if Ferazel's riding a carpet? Do wind tiles still push him around?

5. Try them out yourself, it's not that hard.

I will as soon as I have a working copy of Ferazel again. 🙂

Sorry, you've confused me. If the time is the same, how can the animation be faster? I have an idea - correct me if I'm wrong - does Info(0) control how quickly it transitions between positions, and info(1) how long it stays still before it begins the next transition?

Thanks!

I do not know, I have never flown Ferazel through a wind tunnel before. 😉 I would assume that Ferazel would not move in the wind but if he jumped he would. That is just a guess, I do not know.

Oh I guess I kind of scanned your first paragraph and just got to the questions.

OK, with the cannons:

info(0) is the motion type and speed (either normal or fast).
info (1) is the duration (in ticks) between rotations
info (2) is amount to rotate but lets not go there.

if you're set to "fast" the animation runs faster but the duration is still the same. That must be what confuses you. The duration is still the same because the animation still starts at the sime time, fast or slow. Remember that if Ferazel jumps in a spinning cannon, he will only be shot out once it stops spinning. This means as soon as the animation starts, the cannon is counted by the engine as flipped. The turning animation starts as soon as the cannon is "flipped" so the time in which the animaion runs, is actually time in which the tick counter is already counting down to the next rotation. The faster animation is a cosmetic effect only.

If you fly the magic carpet through an upwards wind tunnel, Ferazel gets picked up off the carpet while the carpet stays in the air, effectively rendering the carpet useless since you can't 'land' on it. If the air is moving sideways, Ferazel moves and therefore the carpet moves (because the carpet always moves so that Ferazel is in the middle - if you land on the side of the carpet, it will compensate and move slowly sideways until Ferazel is correctly placed). I don't know about downward air currents. I think Ferazel would stay on.

Conclusion: Never fly a magic carpet through upwards wind currents.
Hope that helps a little.

Didn't work when I tried it.

You need a hole in the ceiling where they come out.

Now that's what I'm talking about! 🙂 I'm sure someone 'round here can come up with an appropriately evil way to make use of this feature... 🆒

Another one:
In Ends of the Earth, the purple axe goblins are immune to the flames. Is this an intrinsic quality of purpleness, or is there another way to make enemies immune/vulnerable to flame? Are any enemy types always immune? Always vulnerable?

I did not know that the purple goblins are immune to flames...are you sure of that? Purple goblins take a lot of damage before they go into retreat.

Does my memory fail me? I seem to recall goblins charging through the flames at me in Ends of the Earth, as I stood amidst the flames, guarded by my Fire Amulet. Am I just going senile? 🙂

(edit)Well, there are definitely goblins amidst the flames in that level. So the question is again whether they are being damaged or not as they attack me. Anyone want to be a scientist? Place one in a little room of fire where Ferazel can see it and wait to see if it dies. (But don't tell PETA, ok? 😉 )

I didn't test it, but I've played Ends of Earth several times and I'm sure the goblins don't get hurt. And how do you make a goblin change to purple? Is it info field (1)? I forget.

No, set info (2) to 4. OK I guess fire immunity goes with the purpleness then.

That, and purple Axe Goblins don't hit you through rock barriers

Interesting....for some reason, while I had the fire charm on, I was damaged by purple fire. Is that normal?
