I used to play pop a bit after its release. The game was fun, regardless of how many features were turned off from not being registered. After not playing for some months, i decided to go at it again.
I just downloaded 1.0.2 on my new computer, and there's a unregistered limitation that only lets you play for 7.5 minutes. I don't remember that limitation being on the previous versions. I don't know about anyone else, but this limitation seems a bit too restricting to me.
You might say that the new limitation may encourage more people to register, but how can someone who's trying pop-pop for the first time enjoy the game if the time restriction is that short? I actually see the time limitation as sort of a turn-off, and it may discourage newcomers from registering, since they can barely experience a game of pop-pop without being cut off.
Not being able to play puzzle mode for more than 5 rounds, not being able to create games after a week, and not being able to choose the other pop characters were good restrictions that encouraged users to register pop, but i think that this 7.5 minute cut-off may be excessive. It does more harm than good, in my opinion.
What do you other unregistered users think? Is the 7.5 minute cut-off too harsh? Explain.

I think it is about right -- the cutoff depends on the skill level. The lower the skill level, the more time you have... and nothing prevents you from playing in a new game right after that, nor practicing on your own.
I think we had the restrictions way too loose in the first releases, to be honest with you...

No, before I registered(popcorn is a name that I just use on the webboard) I played for about 60 days, and about the only loss I had was that I couldn't host. I still play bombastic, and am doing everything I could do when I started playing. I say the cut-off was much needed!

I agree totally that they should have a 7.5 minute cut-off

Well, that is what happens when people play and don't pay.

What about doubling the period? The tracker is mostly empty these days because there aren't newbies packing the place to try it out. It's these DEMO users who see all the cool pros whacking ass with the nifty pops that gets 'em interested...

I also only registered because of the awesome characters and great players.

Okay, heres my two cents:
pop-pop is an excellent game that convinced many users to register before the timer delay was added. I remember seeing plenty of DEMOnewbies on the board, all eager to play pop-pop. Since I downloaded 1.0.2, I've only seen one DEMOnewbie on the tracker. The other limitations were good enough. I remember other Ambrosia games that had two many limitations. EVN 1.0.0 made it so that you good not buy good ships and good outfits unless you registered (no Mod Starbridges :frown:) The next update removed that. Also in PoG 1.0.0, you could not load a Saved game! This was also taken out in the next update. In conclusion, pop-pop is a great game and newbies realize it, but they won't upgrade unless they can play a decent portion with well placed limitations.
------------------ Clones are people two. If UPS and Fed-Ex merged, would they be Fed-Up? Play a network game of pop-pop before nobody plays and interest goes pop-pop!
I've seen several DEMO players. Once, two DEMO newbies held a password game. That was irritating. grrr...
Now, if one of my friends (Windows users that want a Mac, but thier folks won't allow it) got pop-pop, then maybe we could play a password game.
Back to the subject. I haven't registered (I'm DEMOFireFlash, by the way. Thunderforge is too long of a name for pop-pop) because I am a poor kid who can't buy pop-pop, PoG, and EVN ($80!!!) and keep up with other finances. I think that PoG's unregister limits are fair (although I'm itching to get to the next town) and so are EVN's (what happens next in the Vellos and Pirate storylines). Like I said above, I think hat the timer limit is unfair, as there are already enough limitations, and the Lounge is almost always empty.

I like Microsoft(note capitals). They make nice mice. poppop is best with a two-button mouse. Therefore, I got one.
what has this world come to? tsk, tsk :frown:
Are you making comments about my mouse?
