Power-ups/Power-downs, good and bad?

Of course all power-ups are good, and all power-downs are bad, but some are less helpful or less damaging than others. That said, what is your favorite power-up? Your least favorite? What about power-downs?

I have two favorite power-ups, the extra paddle charge, and the triple up. The paddle charge makes your paddle bigger, it makes bricks easier to clear. The triple
up can change a bad game into a good one very quickly.

My least favorite power-up is the thing that makes your ball go green. Not only do you lose your ball speed, if you have bricks close to the line, you have to magnet it back to save the game.

My favorite power-down is the the minus paddle charge, it's not too damaging, and it's slightly harder, but not too much harder. It goes away after a while, too.

My least favorite is the triple down. It can turn a good game into a bad one just like that. It's a terrible momentum changer.

The extra paddle charge (paddle grow) is good especially if you're playing against bombastic - purely because you have a larger target to catch the bombs falling. Likewise, getting the shrink when playing bombastic is bad for you.

But -when playing against mini-t - the Grow is BAD. The larger the paddle - the more his breath will effect it.

There are tricks to the Super Smash ball... but I'll leave that for you to discover. Can't reveal all the tricks on the first day now can we.

Not if you click your mouse before the ball comes back after you get the powerup. It will hit the paddle and go chargeing off bounceing off ducks and walls and send over a nightmare to your opponent... specialy if you have power left over to send over some annoying distractions as the hollow bricks are on his screen. As you can tell, its my favorite power up. 😛

Least favorite power up. The size increase for the paddle. It makes you a larger target for tex. and a larger target for power-downs.

Favorite downer. The paddle reducer.
Least Favorite downer. The three arrow downer.

I would try the Remember to read the help information! post, it has some info in it.

As for my favorite powerup, that would be the 3 line power up. My other favorite powerup is the green ball, I can click the mouse before I hit it and give it a really good whack, clearing a lot of bricks.

While the horizontal lock powerdown may seem bad at first, you still can hit your ball with extra force if you use it right. And when going against Mini-T (the wind blower) I always grab it if I can.

Ditto for me on that.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about that... thanks! 🙂

Yes, the v-lock is extraordinarily helpful against Mini-T's bombardment of hot air.

Incidently, what does the "T" in mini-t stand for? Tornado?

"Why do you keep using that word? I do not think it means what you think it means."

I hate them all, bitterly. Especially when a bad powerup will float upwards and hit my paddle from the rear. How much does it suck to hit two downers while chasing after Bombastic's ordinances? They also remove a lot of the skill from the game, since they're only available on a random basis. I'd gladly sacrifice all the powerups to play a game without the powerdowns. In fact, I think an option to do this would be very nice for a tournament.

But more to the point - V-lock is my least favorite powerdown. It feels like getting tied down and sucker punched. At one point in the beta we were getting them like 80% of the time - I wanted erase the damned thing.

I've recently started using the ball-green-turning-thing much more aggressively. On hard or expert mode, that thing launched diagonally via the click-before-impact trick followed by a swarm of bombs can be more than enough to do many folks in. The combination of lots of bricks and lots of bombs is nasty.

Least favorite would have to go to the triple down, and the double down after that. It just feels so bad to loose to one of those, or a group of them.
