Just wondering - is it possible to set up a mission such that successful completion gives you dominion over a planet, just as if you'd demanded tribute and then beaten their fleet? I don't need to know HOW it's done (figuring these things out is how I learn the system), I'd just like to know if it CAN be done.

Well... in a way, yes. I could explain it, but you said you wanted to figure it out first. If you can't, let me know and I'll explain it. Hint: it will require some trickery and swapping around of certain things.
