Also, the brand new Outpost forums are up! You may discuss Rigante, NTNG and explore the weird and wonderful world of the Warrior's Lounge...(basically, a place with funny people in it :p) And no, this place isn't dead - The old forums had 36 members, and had posted over 4000 posts in total over a month or two. Link below:

Warning: The warriors lounge is not appropriate for children. Visitors will be exposed to Tra La La's sick humor, bastardization of respectable kids cartoons (mainly Kim Possible), depictions of Jack Bauer action figures, and extreme radiation. Enter at your own risk. 😛

Yeah, i've had a discussion about this phrase at the official forums. There are nine planets, and therefore they shall be displayed as so, soon. Don't know why i put it as 'over' 8 planets, however, i was terribly drunk at the time 😉

Saying "over" implies that there could be a whole new universe.

Keep it.

...but when used in conjunction with a number as small as '8', it tends to suggest that the writer is embarrassed about the number they'd otherwise be using, yet doesn't want to lie about that number and instead, leaves the actual figure open to interpretation.

There's nothing wrong with being bald, until you try to hide it with a wig or a comb-over. Similarly, there's nothing wrong with having a project with 9 planets, until you try to make it sound bigger than it actually is.

Don't be apologetic about it.

Exactly the reason i'd like to change things for.

Hey, when was i 'apologetic' about it?

When you used the word 'over'.

Okay, time to let you know of the new and improved Rigante line-up to come! Note: These are NOT the official descriptions, they are small summaries of each feature.

Ships

Hurricane - A small, dive-bomber capable of taking out ships over 5 times it's size in a few strategically placed blows. Piloted only by the flying elite of the navy.

Phantom - This is the standard Rigante fighter craft, used in squads of 4 or more, they can be utterly devastating on patrol.

Braefar - This still smallish-sized gunboat is one of the best balanced in the navy. It is fast, manouverable and yet devastating in power.

Waylander - This heavy gunboat makes up the backbone of the Rigantean Navy, capable of fending off capital-class craft alone the Waylander is truly an awesome ship.

Midnight Falcon - This is the largest ship in the fleet, a weapons platform boasting some of the deadliest gunnery and scud engineering known to man. It is still relitavely small and agile, yet packs a punch.

Banouin - The Banouin is a small trade craft, used to escort ambassadors, small cargo loads and to escort it's larger cousin - the Quhab.

Quhab - The Quhab is an enormous freighter ship, capable of huge cargo loads and commonly used by the Rigantean government to ship ore throughout the mining industry so central to Rigante economy.

Outfits

Scud Projectile Revolver - A fast paced flak cannon, used to sweep open space with explosive projectiles in order to take care of enemy fighter craft.

Light Artillery - Sais it all really, a small and fairly weak piece of gunnery fitted in large numbers to almost every ship of the navy. Crude yet effective.

Medium Artillery - This gun is far more effective than it's predescessor, firing shells frequently and effectively. The result of firing is a constant barrage of small, powerful and highly explosive shells.

Heavy Artillery - What has been said above, only slower, and more deadly 🙂

Swivel Light Culverin - This is a much weaker and yet much faster cariant of te artillery range, allowing for quick bursts of fire in order to devastate fighter swarms as the turret tracks each one down via AI technology.

Light Culverin - This is the same principle, yet fires straight.

Medium Culverin - Again, the smae principle, only slower and more powerful.

Quad Light Culverin Turret - This gun turret is fitted as standard to te Midnight Falcon, and offers the best in point-defense systems. Not only does having four of these swivel guns firing at once make it more deadly, ut the fact that the actual gun itself is controlled by an expert team of gunners concealed inside the machinery.

Glaive Launcher - The Glaive is the most common weapon amongst other in the navy. It is almost identical to the Raven Rocket, only much faster and less powerful - allowing it to be fitted to small fighters such as the Phantom, for missile support.

Systems

- Rigante
Rigante
Druss
Battle Station 1

- Keltoi
Keltoi
Battle Station 2

- New Scotland
New Scotland

- Bannockburn
Bruce

BBS Missions

1. Escort Militia Squad
2. Dispatch Intelligence Personnel
3. Retreive Stolen Papers
4. Pirate Bounty

Junks

The storyline looks to be around 15-16 missions or more, and is getting more intriguing by the day 🙂

There you have it, and there'll be more to come. This is only a teaser, and many new ideas are in production 😉

Sounds really good so-far. Looking forward to it.

That looks really good.

And aren't Glave Worms (or something with a similar name) the Mutalisk weapon in Starcraft?

Yes, they are Glaive Wurms. But I fail to see a link. Glaive is the name of an old roman weapon, basically, a sword. But you can see quite a number of references in his naming. Quhab for instance is another weapon. Goggle'ing a couple of the stuff he mentionned might lead to interesting discoveries...

Back on-topic, it looks like a nice plug 🙂 I'm also looking forward to it.

I think glaives are also polearms. They're also the equivalent of shurikens in some movie that I can't remember right now.

I thought the Romans used the gladius.

Shirukens are the throwing stars.

Edit: It's a medieval polearm, since the ancient Romans didn't use weapons like that. I think early Germanic and Frankish peoples (i.e. invaders) used them.

Glaive is the french word for gladius. Maybe I should look at how it was actually pronounced in latin... I'm still curious of what relations I could find with some of the names used in his plug.

There is a ship called the "Glaive" in it, and it just reminded me of Starcraft. That's all.

~i know.

The Glaive is a spear like weapon thrown froma distance. The blade usually boasts poison and a viscious saw-like edge.

The Quhab is a claw-like weapon strapped to the the wrist and forearm.

The Gladius was a short, wide, stabbing sword used by the Roman Legionaries, Heavy Auxiliary and as a secondary weapon for the Auxilliary Cavalry and Light Infantry. It was designed to be held behind the advancing sheild, and to be thrust forward in a stab as opposed to a slash (safer, quicker, deadlier.)

And i've never played Starcraft in my life, so i wouldn't know what you were talking about anyway 🙂
