Some questions

about stuff

Damn, Edwards, forgot about that. I thought about minimising the resources but didn't bother. Still think it's funny that you can actually play (and self-destruct) when you don't have a ship. ๐Ÿ™‚
Well the reason I made it is because I'm putting together a little guide...

Check it out: It loads, you can make a new pilot, enter ship, look at the map and player info, self-destruct, exit to the main screen and quit again.

That file is incredibly obese. I made a 910 byte version a few months ago. The uncompressed version was 5,108 bytes.
Of course, I actually went to the trouble of minimizing every graphic to its smallest possible size, so it was a bit less playable than yours, but I think I win on small size.

Anyway, nice job on building a nearly-completely-minimized file. ๐Ÿ™‚

Edwards

I saw that! And I grabbed a copy. :ninja:

Okay, so I have some questions for what I'm doing:
What makes a system label you a public enemy?
Is the first entry in the legal status strings actually used for anything?
What is the fourth group of stellar communication strings for (the ones that say they don't have any info)?
And the last group of ship comm strings? These are almost identical to the strings in the next resource but I think in-game it says "drink" not "synthale".

If I were to give a guess, I'd say "leftover from previous EVs" (synthale is so specifically EVC).

It also shows up in EVO, when you release escorts. (Much more character than nowadays, where the ship just flies away without so much as a farewell.)

Hm, so no one really knows, huh?

Well here's what I got so far.
33 groups of 5: open channel, greetings (non-talkative), open channel (hostile), unknown, open channel (mission escort), open channel (carried ship), unknown, unknown, unknown, unknown, unknown, unknown, can't afford payment, greetings (hostile), won't assist (unnecessary), coming to assist (combat), won't assist (busy), won't assist (don't want to), assist if paid (combat), won't assist (ridiculous), accept mercy bribe, deny mercy, won't assist (player escort), mercy if paid, mercy if paid (mean), won't assist (AI escort), unknown, mercy for free, assist if paid (service), coming to assist (service), reject lower price (mercy), reject lower price (combat/service), unknown.

Tell me if any are wrong or if you know what the unknowns are. There's actually 38 groups but I decided the last 5 are unused (UE R&D is right which means the next STR# is completely unused too). I couldn't get ships to assist in combat (the flag in the rank won't work <_<) so I'm not sure about the coming to assist and assist if paid that I've labelled as combat.

Make sure the ship (by it gรถvt) is not set to salvage ships. Don't ask me. I just remember something like this.

Nope, I was doing this in the EVO port with the UE.

So nobody knows. Does anyone care?
