Stellar Graphics

Highway, what did you use to make the sun graphic? I am pretty unsatisfied with SolarCell, maybe I just need practice...

What about gas giants? Does anyone know what ATMOS used to make those?

I've never tried SolarCell, but people said LunarCell was bad... you just have to work it in with the rest of your workflow, make it artistic.

That sun was a picture of our sun, with effects applied in Photoshop.
It's really very easy to make Gas Giants, much eaiser than planets, because they are more gasious, less detail is involved.

Used simple filters in Photoshop. Including the rings.

It also plays a mean game of Halo.

One thing to remember also, if a planet or sun looks good at 1400x1400 pixels, it will look good at 300x300 pixels. Its also easier to add detail to a planet that is 1400x1400 than a planet that is 300x300, then it will resolve better once you resize it.

EDIT: I forgot to tell you, don't use artificial clouds, that is a guaranteed way to get a fake-looking planet. Use the real-time satallite cloud images.

I want a MattWalker™! How much and what are the system requirements?

Just so you have all the facts; I believe MattWalker™ was predated by NickAnderson™ which actually formed the basis for MattWalker's™ development. It's just a shame that due to usage rights, very little of the artwork created with NickAnderson™ can be publicly shared. Though his time will soon come.

NickAnderson™ has somewhat higher system requirements and won't run under DOS 2.1. Needs a wedge into the 4k of free space between $c000-$cfff. This puts it outside of the practical usability for most amateurs 😄

While the current version of MattWalker™ is fully Mac compatible (Minimum requirements are 256MB RAM and altivec capability; below that he can have a cup of tea while filters run); due to resource constraints this may change in future versions. As MattWalker™ is being seperated from the rest of the product "family", certain development tools will no longer be available, and the product may become Windows only.

Unless, say, someone buys him a new iMac.

Then the Mac community will have to do without MattWalker™.

I think MattWalker™ actually uses a OS X emulator.
But to use that feature, it kicks the cost up about 400%

You have a screwed-up sense of humor.

MattWalker™ runs natively under OS X and applies only to Photoshop 7.0+. As does NickAnderson™. However, both are fairly difficult to get hold of. The latter being downright near impossible at the present time (as Hudson stated).

I would just like to clarify that MattWalker™ is accredited 100% by NickAnderson™.

The current Specification:

Windows

IntelŽ Xeon™, Xeon Dual, Intel Centrino™, or PentiumŽ III or 4 processor
MicrosoftŽ WindowsŽ 2000 with Service Pack 4, or Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or 2
320MB of RAM (384MB recommended)
2GB of available hard-disk space
1,280x1,024 monitor resolution with 16-bit video card
CD-ROM drive
Internet or phone connection required for product activation

Macintosh Limited amount of Macintosh copies

PowerPCŽ G3, G4, or G5 processor
Mac OS X v.10.2.8 through v.10.4 (10.3.4 through 10.4 recommended)

2GB of available hard-disk space
1,280x1,024 monitor resolution with 16-bit video card
CD-ROM drive
Internet or phone connection required for product activation

Also keep in mind this product is limited, and has a 30-day free trial run available.

Total cost: Patience, time and any spare money you have.

MattWalker™ Applies to mostly Adobe Photoshop CS2, earlier versions will work also.
